SAIC is seeking a talented and driven Systems Test Engineer to join our team in Colorado Springs, CO. In this critical role, you will contribute to the development, testing, integration, and deployment of cutting-edge solutions that enhance the capabilities of warfighters and improve the user experience for mission-critical applications. This is your chance to make an impact by advancing military, intelligence, and Air Force operations through rapid innovation and secure technology solutions.
As a key team member, you will play a crucial role in integrating new ground systems with legacy infrastructure, including the testing of software, hardware, and complex systems to streamline the secure development and deployment of mission-critical solutions. Working within a rapid prototyping team, you will collaborate closely with software engineers, DevSecOps engineers, and other systems engineers to ensure robust and high-performing solutions.
We are seeking an innovative and results-driven individual to support the planning, testing, maintenance, and operational efforts for the Battle Management Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (BMC3I) software and related ground systems that interface with Space Control Network (SCN) capabilities. This includes facilitating a diverse range of application testing activities, assisting with mission planning, and acquiring in-depth knowledge of each application's purpose and testing requirements. Success in this role will require close coordination with mission application developers, Government stakeholders, and partners across the broader BMC3I and SCN ecosystem, providing SETA-like advisory and technical support that informs Government decisions on test strategy, risk, and deployment readiness.
Responsibilities
- Participate in agile ceremonies, including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
- Lead high-level test planning activities, including definition of test objectives, scope, entry/exit criteria, and resource requirements across multiple releases and mission threads.
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, test procedures, and test cases for mission-critical applications and integrated ground systems.
- Design and evolve test architectures and test environments to support integration, end-to-end mission thread validation, performance, and interoperability testing across legacy and modernized components, including systems that interface with SCN ground stations and mission applications.
- Integrate new ground systems into legacy environments (including legacy SCN systems where applicable), covering roadmap development, system design, and on-site testing for seamless interoperability.
- Conduct functional, regression, exploratory, and Section 508 compliance testing.
- Support integration testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with developers and clients, including formal test events and test witnessing in support of Government customer verification and validation activities.
- Provide SETA-style technical support to the Government customer, advising on test approaches, test readiness, risk mitigation, and acceptance criteria for new capabilities and system changes affecting mission operations and SCN-dependent workflows.
- Promote test automation and best practices to improve software quality and efficiency, including alignment of automated test frameworks with the overall test architecture.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve testing issues, and maintain rigorous problem/issue tracking documentation (defect reports, test incident logs, and test findings) to ensure traceability from discovery through resolution.
- Develop and maintain test documentation, including test plans, procedures, reports, discrepancy reports, and test readiness assessments for formal reviews and decision forums.
- Build a deep understanding of mission applications and their testing requirements, including operational use cases, mission timelines, and constraints associated with ground and SCN-supported operations.
- Coordinate closely with mission application developers, operations personnel, and Government stakeholders to plan, execute, and document formal test campaigns, including dry runs, operational demonstrations, and accreditation-related testing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with fourteen (14)+ years experience, Master’s with twelve (12)+ years, or PhD with ten (10)+ years of related experience.
- 10 years’ software and systems testing experience able to support the full lifecycle with solid skill in test environments, including test planning, test execution, and test reporting for complex, distributed systems.
- 25% travel is required for this position.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and have a TS clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Position is on-site, with required meetings and testing events in person at the facility, including on-site test witnessing and support to Government-led test events.
- Experience with MS SQL Server database and SQL.
- Experienced in modernizing and integrating new ground systems with legacy infrastructures; experience with systems that interface with SCN, satellite C2, or other DoD space ground architectures is highly beneficial.
- Experience with Section 508, accessibility testing approaches and screen readers, such as JAWS.
- Excellent analytical, communication, troubleshooting and resolution skills, including clear documentation of issues, risks, and corrective actions.
- Ability to work in team environments across a diverse set of projects with multiple stakeholders, including Government customers in a SETA/advisory capacity.
- A thorough understanding of satellite control concepts, protocols, and operational procedures for ground systems; experience with SCN architecture and operations is a plus but not required for consideration.
- Proven ability to create system development roadmaps with expertise in planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management for integration projects.
- Demonstrated experience developing test architectures and managing test environments that support integration, regression, and operational readiness testing for mission systems.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with formal test witnessing, test readiness reviews (TRRs), and documenting test results for Government acceptance and accreditation processes.
- Familiarity with defect/issue tracking tools and configuration management practices in support of test and evaluation activities (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar).
- Prior experience supporting space or satellite control programs (e.g., SCN, AFSCN, or similar DoD space ground systems).
Skills
