Cookie policy

A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser. This page lists the ones we set and what each is for.

The short version

We set only the cookies the site cannot work without. We also use Google for two things — showing ads, and Google Analytics to count visits — and Google sets cookies of its own for both. Google is the only third party on this site.

If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, no advertising or analytics cookie is set unless you agree to it, and you can change that choice at any time. Everything we ourselves set is strictly necessary and is described below.

What we set

• Session — set when you sign in, so the site knows the next request is still you. Removed when you sign out, and it expires on its own.
• Security — short-lived values that protect sign-in and form submissions against cross-site request forgery.

Browsing the job board without an account sets none of our own cookies. Our network provider may set one to distinguish real traffic from automated abuse; it is used for security and not to profile you.

What we keep in your browser

The job board remembers which postings you have opened, so it can mark them as viewed. That list is kept in your browser’s own storage rather than in a cookie, and it is never sent to us. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes it.

If you are signed in, your account keeps the postings you open as well, so they show as viewed on your other devices too. That list is visible only to you and is deleted with your account.

What Google sets

We show ads through Google AdSense, which pays for the crawling behind this board and is why every job page is free to read. Google sets cookies to serve those ads, to measure them, and to limit how often you see the same one. Where you have consented, or where the law permits it, those cookies may also be used to personalise the ads you are shown.

We do not receive that data and we do not combine it with your account. Google’s own description of what it collects, and the controls it offers, are at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used — which pages are read, how visitors arrive, and where a search comes up empty. It sets cookies that tell a returning visitor from a new one. We see the results as aggregate reports; we do not use them to identify you and we do not combine them with your account.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland these cookies are not set unless you agree. Without that, Google receives only a signal that a page was viewed, with no cookie attached.

What nobody sets here

• No data about you sold to anyone.
• No advertising anywhere near the hiring signal on a job page. The score is measured from the employer’s own board, and nobody can pay to change it.

Changing your choice

Where a consent choice was offered, the same control is available again from the privacy options link in the page footer, and your browser settings can block these cookies outright. Blocking them does not restrict anything on the site.

Controlling cookies

Your browser can block or delete cookies. Blocking our own two means you will not be able to stay signed in; the public job board will still work.
