The Challenge

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Occupational Medical Practitioner to lead our Occupational Health and Wellness function. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence employee health and wellbeing within a dynamic mining environment. The successful candidate will provide specialist occupational health services, ensure compliance with legislative and industry requirements, champion workplace health initiatives, and play a key role in preventing and managing occupational injuries and illnesses. In addition, the incumbent will provide clinical support and medical services to Namdeb Hospital, contributing to the delivery of high-quality healthcare.

The Ideal Applicant

  • A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB/MBBS) or an equivalent medical qualification recognized by the Health Professions Councils of Namibia (HPCNA).
  • A postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Medicine or a Specialty in Occupational Medicine (Fellow or Master’s) registrable with HPCNA.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic medical record systems.
  • Eight (8) years’ experience as a General Practitioner, including at least three (3) years as an Occupational Medical Practitioner with proven experience in:
  • Occupational medical surveillance programmes
  • Workplace health risk assessments
  • Clinical HIV management
  • Previous experience in the mining industry will be an added advantage.

Job Specific competencies include

  • Sound knowledge of Namibian occupational health and safety legislation and relevant SADC standards.
  • Strong understanding of mining-related occupational health risks, including dust exposure, noise, ergonomics and chemical hazards.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, diagnostic and treatment skills.
  • Excellent analytical, report-writing and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to design, implement and evaluate medical surveillance data and provide evidence-based recommendations.
  • High ethical standards, professionalism and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy and quality assurance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making ability, particularly in high-pressure and time-sensitive situations.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to inspire, develop and lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse and multiculture environment.
