Job Summary
Software Engineer Interns will join Cambridge Technology product development teams and contribute to meaningful business and technology initiatives. Interns will gain hands-on experience across the software development lifecycle while working alongside experienced software engineers, architects, and technical leaders. Through real-world project work, they will strengthen their technical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills while learning modern Agile engineering practices.
Key Deliverables and Responsibilities
- Support product backlog priorities by designing and developing software features and components, including web programming and business-layer development.
- Develop code, write automated unit tests, participate in code reviews and pair programming, and contribute to build and release activities.
- Apply Cambridge software development lifecycle, coding, configuration, testing, and Agile team practices to assigned work.
- Work with relational databases, SQL, APIs, and event-driven components when applicable to the assigned project.
- Create test plans and test cases, perform testing, document results, and report defects as needed.
- Evaluate design and coding options, explain tradeoffs with guidance from experienced engineers, and communicate effectively with stakeholders and team members.
What We Are Looking For
- Current undergraduate student pursuing Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- Understanding of object-oriented programming, with experience in C# or a comparable programming language.
- Experience with .NET frameworks and ASP.NET MVC, plus an understanding of relational database systems and SQL.
- Interest in modern application development, automated testing, CI/CD, and Agile or Scrum practices.
- Problem-solving ability, initiative, accountability, eagerness to learn, and willingness to collaborate in a team environment.
- Exposure to tools or technologies such as Visual Studio, Azure DevOps, SQL Server Management Studio, APIs, React, Angular, Snowflake, YAML, Terraform, or Kafka is beneficial.
Program Summary
Cambridge’s Next Step 11-week paid summer internship program (May 17 – July 30) gives students the opportunity to gain valuable insight into both their chosen field and the financial service industry while working on meaningful projects that contribute to business outcomes. Each intern is partnered with a professional mentor and participates in our professional development program, which includes industry education, career workshops, leadership panels, and networking events. Nearly 30% of interns return to Cambridge as full-time associates.
Location
All internships are on-site, operating out of our Phoenix, AZ or Fairfield, IA offices. Apartment-style housing is available for Fairfield candidates, and some positions may be eligible to work out of our West Des Moines satellite office.
Work Authorization
Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. We are unable to accommodate temporary student work authorizations, including initial Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Posting Window
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in November. Internships are expected to remain posted until January 15, but may close earlier if filled. Candidates are encouraged to apply early for greatest consideration.
Compensation
$17-$26 per hour depending upon location, role, and year in school. Interns also receive 2 paid holidays and 2 days of paid time off across the summer.
