Combine cold chain and validation expertise with digital innovation to strengthen global vaccine distribution
Do you have experience validating pharmaceutical transport solutions and ensuring GDP compliance? Can you turn temperature excursions and distribution challenges into lasting improvements? And are you interested in how data and digital tools can strengthen cold chain performance?
At Bavarian Nordic, we are looking for a Global Distribution Validation & Cold Chain Specialist who combines strong technical and compliance expertise with a data-driven mindset. Your work will help ensure our vaccines are transported under the right conditions, while improving how we monitor performance, manage risks and make decisions.
The position can be based in Denmark or Switzerland, and travel is expected as part of the role.
Your role
You will develop, qualify and improve global transport and cold chain distribution solutions, ensuring compliance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP). As a subject matter expert, you will provide practical guidance on cold chain requirements, lead validation activities and support the resolution of distribution-related quality issues.
Working closely with Quality, Supply Chain, Digital, IT and external logistics partners, you will combine operational knowledge with data insights to strengthen distribution reliability. You will also contribute to new product introductions and new distribution lanes, ensuring that transport requirements, risks and qualification needs are addressed before implementation.
What you will do
Ensure transport validation and cold chain compliance
- Develop, evaluate, optimize and implement global transport and cold chain distribution solutions that meet GDP requirements.
- Plan and execute transport validation and qualification activities, including protocols, performance qualifications (PQs), reports, periodic reviews and risk assessments.
- Act as a subject matter expert in cold chain distribution and support audits, inspections and assessments.
- Support the qualification and ongoing assessment of logistics suppliers and transport solutions in collaboration with Quality and relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute to new product introductions, new distribution lanes and other cross-functional initiatives by defining and addressing distribution and qualification requirements.
Own quality issues and drive improvements
- Manage and assess temperature excursions in collaboration with Quality, using relevant stability data when required to support impact assessments.
- Own deviations, change controls and corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) related to distribution and cold chain activities.
- Investigate root causes, coordinate actions across stakeholders and follow through on implementation and effectiveness.
- Translate recurring issues and operational insights into improvements that strengthen cold chain performance and compliance.
Strengthen monitoring, analytics and digital capabilities
- Drive the assessment and implementation of global systems for cold chain monitoring and data management.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, KPIs and analytics frameworks covering transport performance, temperature excursions and supplier performance.
- Analyze data to identify trends and emerging risks and prepare actionable insights for management reviews and governance meetings.
- Collaborate with Digital, IT, Quality and Supply Chain to implement and improve digital platforms, automate reporting and strengthen data quality.
- Evaluate and support the implementation of AI-enabled solutions, predictive analytics, intelligent automation, digital simulation and connected monitoring technologies where they can improve distribution performance.
- Support data governance, data integrity and validation requirements for GxP-relevant digital systems, including applicable AI-driven solutions.
What you bring
You bring a strong foundation in pharmaceutical cold chain distribution and validation, combined with the ability to use data and technology to improve how we work.
We are looking for someone with
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics or related discipline.
- At least five years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical distribution, validation, cold chain management or a related regulated environment.
- Strong knowledge of GMP/GDP guidelines and their practical application to transport and cold chain activities.
- Hands-on experience with transport validation and qualification, including protocols, PQs, risk assessments and periodic reviews.
- Experience assessing temperature excursions and managing deviations, change controls and CAPAs.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical findings and data into practical actions.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Qlik or similar analytics tools, and familiarity with AI, predictive analytics or digital transformation initiatives.
Experience with logistics supplier qualification and distribution support for new product introductions is valuable. Knowledge of computerized systems, data integrity principles and validation of GxP-relevant digital solutions is an advantage.
How you work
You take ownership and follow issues through from investigation to resolution. You work systematically with documentation and risk assessments, while understanding the operational realities of global distribution.
You communicate technical and compliance requirements clearly and collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners. You are curious about new technologies and can assess how they can support reliable, compliant distribution in practice.
Why join Bavarian Nordic?
You will have the opportunity to influence how vaccines are transported globally, combining hands-on validation and quality responsibilities with the development of stronger monitoring and digital capabilities.
Your expertise will help prevent temperature-related risks, resolve distribution challenges and support new products and transport routes. At the same time, you will help shape how we use data to anticipate issues and continuously improve performance.
