At Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), we are building the next generation of cloud services for autonomous and intelligent robotics. The OCI Robotics Cloud team is developing a secure, scalable, cloud-native robotics platform that enables customers to onboard, manage, monitor, and operate heterogeneous robot fleets across industries.

Our platform provides cloud services for robot registration and identity, fleet and mission management, telemetry and observability, digital twins, simulation, software lifecycle management, and AI-powered robotic applications.

A key focus of the team is an AI-assisted, spec-driven robot onboarding platform that transforms robot integration from a manual engineering effort into a scalable software engineering workflow. Using standardized service contracts, edge specifications, reusable adapters, SDKs, and AI-generated implementation guidance, our platform enables robots from different vendors to integrate rapidly through consistent cloud interfaces.

We are also building the foundation for the next generation of intelligent robotics by connecting cloud infrastructure, simulation, operational robot data, continuous learning, and emerging VLM/VLA and embodied AI technologies. Our goal is to enable robotic systems that can be developed, evaluated, deployed, observed, and continuously improved at fleet scale.

Our vision is to make robot onboarding as simple and repeatable as cloud onboarding while creating the cloud foundation for increasingly intelligent and autonomous robot fleets.

As a Lead Principal Platform Software Engineer, you will be a senior technical leader for OCI Robotics Cloud. You will define architecture and technical direction across the organization, shape the technical roadmap, establish platform abstractions and engineering standards, and lead solutions to complex problems spanning cloud infrastructure, AI, edge computing, simulation, and robotics.

If you are excited about defining the architecture for a new generation of cloud-connected intelligent robotics, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Define the overall architecture and technical direction for OCI Robotics Cloud across cloud services, edge computing, robot integration, simulation, data, and AI.
  • Own and drive the technical roadmap across the organization, translating product strategy, customer requirements, and emerging technologies into scalable platform investments.
  • Establish common architecture patterns, platform abstractions, service contracts, APIs, and engineering standards across multiple product areas and engineering teams.
  • Lead the architecture of major capabilities including robot onboarding and identity, fleet and mission management, telemetry, digital twins, simulation, software lifecycle management, and AI-powered robotics.
  • Define scalable architectures connecting simulation, robot telemetry, AI models, evaluation, deployment, and continuous-learning workflows.
  • Shape platform capabilities for emerging VLM/VLA, multimodal, embodied AI, and agentic robotics systems.
  • Lead development of AI-assisted, spec-driven robot onboarding, including service specifications, integration contracts, reusable adapters, SDKs, and developer workflows.
  • Drive architectural decisions involving scalability, availability, security, observability, performance, extensibility, and operational excellence.
  • Identify and resolve complex technical dependencies and architectural tradeoffs spanning teams, services, and technology domains.
  • Partner across product, robotics, AI, security, networking, cloud infrastructure, and other cross-functional organizations to align architecture and execution.
  • Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, design reviews, technical strategy discussions, and mentorship of senior engineers.
  • Champion an AI-native engineering process, applying AI throughout requirements, design, implementation, testing, debugging, evaluation, and documentation to accelerate iteration while maintaining production-quality engineering standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years of software development experience, including significant experience building large-scale backend services, distributed systems, or cloud platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more languages such as Python, Go, Java, or C++.
  • Deep experience designing APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and production cloud services.
  • Experience with cloud-native technologies including Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD, and container orchestration.
  • Demonstrated experience defining architecture for highly scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable production systems.
  • Experience providing technical leadership across multiple teams or major platform areas.
  • Strong architecture, software design, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous product and technology requirements into long-term technical strategy and executable architecture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and cross-functional leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, AI/ML, or a related field.
  • Experience defining architecture or technical strategy for large-scale cloud, robotics, autonomous systems, AI platforms, or distributed edge systems.
  • Experience with robotics frameworks such as ROS 2 and communication technologies such as DDS, MQTT, OPC UA, VDA5050, or similar protocols.
  • Experience with robot simulation and learning environments such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, Gazebo, Webots, or similar platforms.
  • Experience designing simulation-to-production architectures, including synthetic data, evaluation, validation, telemetry feedback, and deployment workflows.
  • Experience with vision-language models (VLMs), vision-language-action (VLA) models, multimodal foundation models, embodied AI, or agentic robotics systems.
  • Experience with reinforcement learning, imitation learning, continual learning, online adaptation, or other approaches for continuously improving autonomous systems.
  • Understanding of how foundation models can interact with robot perception, state, actions, tools, and environmental context to enable higher-level autonomous behavior.
  • Experience designing platforms that connect simulation, training, evaluation, deployment, fleet telemetry, and continuous learning.
  • Experience with secure robot/device identity, workload identity, edge computing, OTA software deployment, and zero-trust architectures.
  • Experience establishing APIs, SDKs, service contracts, developer platforms, adapter frameworks, or extensibility models across multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience applying AI-native software engineering practices, including AI-assisted development, specification-driven engineering, automated testing, code generation, and agentic engineering workflows.
