About Pragmatic Institute
Pragmatic Institute provides product, marketing, and data training for professionals and organizations around the world. We help teams build better products and bring them to market more effectively through education, certifications, and practical resources.
About the Role
We are hiring a Senior Marketing Web Developer to serve as the technical owner of our marketing web platform and the only web developer on the marketing team. You will set technical direction, make day-to-day implementation decisions, and connect website work to business priorities.
Our WordPress Multisite platform uses Elementor and connects with HubSpot, ecommerce, analytics, and our course and certification systems. It supports campaigns, lead generation, enrollment, and content across the customer journey. The role includes hands-on development, platform engineering, integrations, measurement, and production support. This role combines front-end design, back-end development, marketing technology integrations, and website performance optimization to support lead generation, brand awareness, and overall business growth.
This role requires judgment as much as execution. You will clarify the business problem behind a request, assess the expected impact and maintenance cost, and recommend the right solution. You should be comfortable challenging an approach respectfully, explaining the tradeoffs, and owning the outcome of the work you ship.
Key Responsibilities
Business Outcomes and Web Roadmap
- Turn marketing and business goals into a prioritized web roadmap, balancing customer impact, conversion potential, revenue contribution, effort, risk, and long-term maintainability.
- Define the problem, hypothesis, and success measure before significant work begins. Recommend a different approach when a request is unlikely to produce the intended result.
- Use analytics, site behavior, customer needs, and stakeholder input to identify opportunities and recommend improvements before they become tickets.
- Review the results of launches and experiments, explain what the data shows, and use those findings to guide the next decision.
Full Stack WordPress Development
- Develop and maintain production WordPress functionality using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, MySQL, WordPress APIs, hooks, filters, REST APIs, scheduled tasks, and database queries.
- Build and extend themes, plugins, templates, reusable components, custom post types, taxonomies, forms, landing pages, campaign experiences, and data-driven features.
- Use Elementor and established tools efficiently while recognizing when custom code or a simpler approach will produce a better result.
- Translate business, UX, content, SEO, analytics, and marketing requirements into accessible, responsive, and maintainable solutions
Platform Engineering and Integrations
- Own the reliability, security, maintainability, and technical direction of the WordPress Multisite platform.
- Manage WordPress core, theme, plugin, and dependency updates through development, staging, QA, release, and post-release verification using version control and repeatable deployment practices.
- Evaluate, build, and maintain integrations among WordPress, HubSpot, ecommerce, analytics, and related systems. Consider data quality, customer experience, performance, risk, and maintenance cost before adding a dependency.
- Diagnose and resolve front-end, back-end, form, integration, tracking, and production issues using logs, browser tools, database inspection, and systematic debugging.
- Set standards for themes, plugins, scripts, page patterns, and custom code. Reduce unnecessary dependencies and technical debt over time.
Performance Measurement and Platform Health
- Monitor and improve page speed, Core Web Vitals, mobile experience, caching, CDN behavior, technical accessibility, and technical SEO.
- Own the Google Tag Manager container and the technical implementation and governance of website measurement.
- Implement and maintain Google Analytics 4 events, ecommerce and form conversion tracking, behavioral analytics, and the supporting data layer.
- Partner with marketing and analytics stakeholders to resolve tracking, attribution, consent, and data-quality issues and to keep reporting trustworthy.
- Monitor platform health, surface risks early, and respond quickly to incidents and performance regressions.
Delivery and Cross Functional Partnership
- Deliver web work for campaigns, promotions, webinars, lead-generation assets, events, course pages, ecommerce, and ongoing site improvements.
- Partner closely with UI and UX, content and SEO, performance media, lifecycle marketing, marketing operations, analytics, and other business teams.
- Complete technical QA across browsers and devices, coordinate stakeholder review, deploy approved changes, and verify production releases.
- Document architecture, integrations, recurring processes, releases, dependencies, and troubleshooting procedures so the platform remains supportable.
How Success Will Be Measured
- Specific targets will be set from current baselines and business priorities. Performance in the role will be assessed across the following areas.
- Business impact High-priority web work has a clear success measure and contributes to stronger conversion, lead generation, enrollment, ecommerce, or campaign performance.
- Customer experience and speed Priority journeys are fast, usable, accessible, and reliable across devices, with measurable progress in Core Web Vitals and related experience indicators.
- Measurement quality Website events and conversions are implemented consistently, validated after release, and trusted by the teams that use them.
- Delivery quality Important work ships predictably, releases are verified, and production defects are limited and resolved quickly.
- Platform health Security and dependency maintenance stay current, technical debt declines, and the platform becomes easier to change and support over time.
Required Qualifications
- At least 5 years of professional web development experience, including substantial hands-on WordPress development in production.
- Experience serving as the primary or senior developer for a production marketing or ecommerce site and making the technical decisions that came with that ownership.
- Strong PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and MySQL skills, with a clear understanding of WordPress architecture, APIs, and coding standards.
- Experience building or extending WordPress themes, plugins, integrations, and custom application functionality rather than relying only on administrative configuration.
- Strong debugging skills across browser, application, server, database, API, and integration layers.
- Hands-on knowledge of web performance, responsive development, accessibility, security, technical SEO, source control, testing, and release practices.
- Experience owning Google Tag Manager and implementing analytics, conversion, ecommerce, or cross-system tracking with Google Analytics 4.
- Examples of using business context and evidence to challenge a request, recommend a better approach, and measure the result.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, clarify incomplete requirements, communicate tradeoffs, and work independently while keeping stakeholders informed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Elementor, JetEngine, or comparable page-building and dynamic-content tools.
- Experience with WP Engine, caching layers, CDN configuration, and performance-monitoring tools.
- Experience with HubSpot forms, marketing automation, ecommerce, and consent-management tools.
- Experience working in a marketing, growth, digital experience, demand-generation, training, or education business.
- Experience inheriting a platform with technical debt and improving it without disrupting business-critical work.
