Position Summary
Samsung Austin Semiconductor is looking for an Engineer to own and operate the fab-critical eSPEC application - our centralized repository of process, limit, recipe, overlay and defect specifications. The engineer will work across the entire Software Testing Life Cycle (requirements, design, coding, testing, deployment, and release) to guarantee that any change to the system is introduced without disrupting the 24×7 manufacturing environment.
As the subject-matter expert, the engineer will be the go-to person for all eSPEC-related activities, including UI maintenance, back-end data integration, process-improvement initiatives, routine maintenance, and deep-dive troubleshooting. The role partners closely with fab engineering, MES teams, and our Korean development counterpart to keep the application and its database in perfect sync, drive migrations and upgrades, and continuously improve performance while preserving the reliability required for high-volume semiconductor production.
Role and Responsibilities
Here’s What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Own the full application life-cycle, design new features, maintain and patch existing code, and manage version releases for both the application and its databases.
- Keep the application and database schemas standardized with the Korean counterpart team, ensuring identical data models and configurations across sites.
- Drive the production release process and continuously monitor application and database performance to meet fab requirements.
- Lead all migrations and upgrades, ensuring each transition is planned, executed, and validated successfully.
- Provide second-level escalation and 24×7 support to guarantee uninterrupted system operation for the factory.
- Understand the existing source code, improve its logic where needed, and administer scheduled jobs, promptly resolving execution errors.
- Work with fab engineering, MES groups, and other development teams to add functionality, solve integration challenges, reduce technical debt, and create clear documentation of architecture, change points, and maintenance procedures.
Skills and Qualifications
Here's what you'll need
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a Software or System engineering role.
Required
- Strong programming skills in C# or Java.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (MS-SQL, Oracle, PL/SQL) and writing SQL queries.
- Experience working in Windows and Linux/Unix environments.
Preferred
- Familiarity with source-control (Git/SVN).
- Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and modern front-end frameworks (Vue.js).
- Exposure to Manufacturing execution systems (MES) or process-control tools.
The current base salary range for this role is between $95,000 - $120,000. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience.
