The Opportunity

CACI's Mastodon Design is hiring a Software Engineering Manager to oversee all aspects of software development for our products in Rochester, NY. This group spans everything from UI to Firmware, including engineering focus areas of of FPGA, DSP, AI/ML, and Test Engineering. You'll own the people side of the group — hiring, mentoring, and developing a multidisciplinary team — while partnering closely with engineering and business stakeholders to keep software development and test moving across our product lines.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary software engineering group spanning from UI to Firmware, including FPGA, DSP, AI/ML, and Test Engineering.
  • Work with SW Discipline leads to hire, mentor, and develop engineering talent across the team
  • Set technical priorities and direction for software activities, including actively partnering with key stakeholders in Mechanical, Hardware, Systems Engineering, and Product Management.
  • Oversee software sustainment — bug fixes, security patching, and long-term support for fielded products
  • Manage staffing and resource allocation across concurrent programs and product lines
  • Partner with Project and Program Management to align software schedules, budgets, and deliverables with program needs
  • Drive software design standards, code review processes, test coverage, and continuous improvement across the group
  • Support proposal efforts with software-focused technical write-ups, staffing plans, and basis of estimates (BoEs)
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical software issues
  • Champion strong software quality, security, and test practices across the team

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years of software/firmware engineering experience, including experience leading or managing a team
  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience with direct reports
  • Experience across one or more of: embedded/application software, firmware, FPGA/digital logic design, or test automation
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize a team's work across multiple concurrent programs
  • Comfortable partnering with program management, systems engineering, and hardware engineering to keep software efforts on track
  • Willingness to obtain a Secret clearance as a condition of continued employment

Nice to Have

  • Experience with EW/SIGINT software, or ruggedized and embedded systems
  • Familiarity with FPGA toolchains and hardware/software co-design
  • Experience with automated test frameworks and continuous integration for embedded systems

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. $114,600-$252,100
