Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and operate AWS-based infrastructure
- Own platform reliability objectives
- Architect and optimize AWS services
- Lead capacity planning, performance optimization, and cost-management
- Establish and maintain infrastructure standards, operational runbooks, and documentation
- Design, build, and govern CI/CD pipelines
- Lead Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
- Architect and support containerized workloads
- Partner with software engineering teams to improve deployment reliability
- Implement and refine progressive deployment strategies
- Design and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions
- Lead incident response, root-cause analysis, and improvement activities
- Drive improvements to observability, resiliency, and operational readiness
- Implement and enforce AWS security best practices
- Oversee secure handling of secrets, credentials, and sensitive data
- Provide technical leadership for ATO renewal and compliance
- Collaborate with stakeholders to remediate findings and apply improvements
- Mentor junior and mid-level DevOps engineers
Requirements
- 6–9+ years of experience in AWS DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or related roles
- Senior-level ownership of production platforms
- Deep, hands-on experience managing AWS infrastructure and services
- Advanced experience designing and operating CI/CD pipelines
- Strong expertise with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation
- Extensive experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS)
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Bash, Python, or similar languages
- Strong understanding of networking, cloud security principles, and distributed system operations
- Proven experience supporting systems with uptime, SLA, and on-call or operational support expectations
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly
Preferred
- Experience working with Federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs
- Experience supporting integration platforms, APIs, or middleware ecosystems
- Hands-on experience with observability platforms such as Datadog
- Experience operating platforms subject to compliance, authorization, or audit requirements
- AWS certifications (Professional or advanced Associate-level)
