  • Work closely with development teams to diagnose application, JVM, middleware, and infrastructure-related problems.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving JVM memory, threads, garbage collection, connection pools, application dependencies, and service integrations.

Build & Deployment Support

  • Support and troubleshoot application build and deployment processes across development, test, and production environments.
  • Assist in diagnosing failed builds, deployment failures, configuration issues, dependency problems, permissions, and environment differences.
  • Understand modern CI/CD concepts, Git-based source control, build pipelines, and release processes.
  • Partner with Development and DevOps teams to improve deployment reliability and reduce manual intervention.

Networking & Infrastructure Coordination

  • Possess a solid understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, ports, load balancing, SSL/TLS, NAT, and network connectivity.
  • Understand VIPs, load balancers, firewall rules, and site-to-site (S2S) VPNs well enough to identify requirements and submit accurate network requests.
  • Troubleshoot application connectivity using tools such as curl, openssl, nslookup/dig, traceroute, netstat/ss, and related Linux utilities.
  • Partner effectively with Network and Security teams to diagnose connectivity issues and implement infrastructure changes.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or comparable Linux distributions.
  • Experience administering and troubleshooting Apache HTTP Server.
  • Experience administering and troubleshooting Red Hat JBoss EAP.

  • Experience troubleshooting application builds and deployments.
  • Understanding of Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated build/deployment processes.
  • Strong networking fundamentals and the ability to translate application requirements into well-defined network requests.

  • Strong communication and documentation skills with the ability to collaborate across Development, Infrastructure, Network, Security, and Operations teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Jira for incident, change, problem, and work tracking.
  • Experience with GitLab, Jenkins, Ansible, or similar CI/CD and automation technologies.

  • Experience supporting applications that integrate with Oracle databases.
  • Basic scripting experience with Bash, Python, or similar technologies.
  • Prior hands-on application development experience (even small) particularly with Java-based enterprise applications, is a plus and will be valuable when troubleshooting application, build, deployment, and runtime issues.

Key Competencies

  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot across the application, middleware, OS, and network stack
  • Comfortable reviewing application code without requiring a software developer background
  • Strong ownership and follow-through
  • Ability to work effectively during production incidents and high-priority deployments
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills
  • Ability to translate technical requirements between Development and Infrastructure teams

What Success Looks Like

This individual will serve as a key technical bridge between Development, DevOps, Middleware, Linux, Network, and Security teams. Success in this role means not simply administering Linux servers, but understanding how the complete application stack works well enough to quickly determine whether an issue originates in the application, Java/JVM, JBoss, Apache, Linux operating system, deployment pipeline, or network and drive it toward resolution.
