Help shape how AI transforms the world’s leading Pulp & Paper engineering and advisory company

AFRY is looking for a hands-on and business-minded AI leader to accelerate AI transformation across our global Pulp & Paper segment.

The role has two core missions

  • Transform how we work, embedding AI into engineering, project delivery, knowledge management and everyday ways of working.
  • Create AI-enabled products and solutions for our clients, developing scalable concepts and offerings that our regional teams can take to market.

This is not primarily a strategy or coordination role.

We are looking for a builder

someone who can move from a business problem to a working solution, from prototype to scaled adoption, and from an individual use case to a repeatable AI product or concept.

You will build on AFRY’s global Pulp & Paper expertise, engineering and project knowledge, client relationships, and capabilities across areas such as MES, digital twins, process modelling, machine learning and industrial data.

Your role

You will

  • Lead the AI strategy, roadmap and portfolio for the global Pulp & Paper segment.
  • Identify and prioritize high-value AI opportunities across engineering, project delivery and client operations.
  • Take an active role in developing, prototyping, testing and implementing AI solutions together with engineers, domain experts and technology specialists.
  • Embed AI into engineering and project-delivery workflows to improve productivity, quality, knowledge reuse and decision-making.
  • Turn AFRY’s Pulp & Paper knowledge and expertise into reusable AI-enabled tools and solutions.
  • Create AI products, concepts and repeatable offerings that our regional organizations can take to their clients.
  • Build on AFRY’s existing capabilities in areas such as MES, digital twins, process models, machine learning, operational excellence and industrial data.
  • Turn successful solutions into scalable offerings that can be reused across projects, countries and clients.
  • Work closely with regional teams to understand client needs and continuously develop the AI solution portfolio.
  • Build AI capability and drive adoption across our global organization.
  • Ensure solutions are developed with appropriate attention to data quality, cybersecurity, intellectual property, governance and responsible AI.
  • Measure success through adoption and tangible business and client value, not simply the number of AI pilots launched.

Regional organizations will continue to own client relationships and commercial execution. Your responsibility is to create the AI-enabled solutions that enable them to succeed in the market.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who combines strong AI expertise with a product-building mindset, industrial understanding and the ability to make change happen.

You bring

  • Strong hands-on experience applying AI, generative AI, machine learning, automation and data technologies to real business or industrial challenges.
  • Experience taking AI solutions from concept and prototype through implementation, adoption and scale.
  • Strong understanding of modern AI technologies, including LLM-based applications, AI agents and workflows, machine learning and enterprise knowledge solutions.
  • Experience translating business or client problems into practical digital products and scalable solutions.
  • Enough technical depth to work credibly with AI, data, software and engineering specialists.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a pragmatic, value-driven approach to technology.
  • The ability to engage effectively with engineers and technical specialists as well as senior business leaders.
  • Strong stakeholder and change-leadership capabilities in an international environment.
  • A genuine bias toward action, experimentation and measurable outcomes.

Experience in industrial AI, manufacturing, process industries, MES, digital twins, process optimization, industrial data or engineering environments would be particularly relevant.

Deep Pulp & Paper expertise is an advantage, but not a prerequisite. AFRY already has deep industry expertise. We are looking for someone who can help unlock and scale that expertise through AI.

Why AFRY?

AFRY’s position as the world’s leading Pulp & Paper engineering and advisory provides a unique platform to shape how AI will transform the industry.

Our opportunity comes from combining AI with deep engineering expertise, decades of project knowledge, industrial capabilities and global client relationships.

This role gives you the opportunity to help transform how AFRY delivers engineering and projects while building the next generation of AI-enabled solutions for the Pulp & Paper industry.

If you want to move beyond AI presentations and isolated pilots and instead build, implement and scale AI solutions in a global industrial environment, we would like to hear from you.

Location and reporting

The position reports directly to the Global Head of Segment Pulp & Paper based in Spain.

The role can be based in Brazil, Canada, Finland, the United States, Spain, or Sweden and will work across our global Pulp & Paper organization.

This position can be based in several locations. To be considered, you need to have an existing right to work in at least one of the countries listed for the role. Please note that AFRY is unable to sponsor or support visa or work permit applications.
