Technical Director

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Director – Managed Network Services (MNS) to provide senior technical leadership, architectural oversight, and strategic direction for a large-scale enterprise network services environment supporting multiple organizations.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in enterprise network architecture, network security, managed services, and infrastructure modernization, along with the ability to lead complex technical initiatives and engage with executive stakeholders.

This is a senior technical leadership position requiring a combination of Chief Network Architect / CTO-level expertise, strategic planning, and technical delivery oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical authority for enterprise managed network services.
• Lead network architecture, engineering standards, technical governance, and technology roadmaps.
• Provide technical leadership across LAN/WAN, wireless, firewalls, WAF, VPN, SD-WAN, DDI, and NOC operations.
• Drive network modernization, infrastructure transformation, automation, and service improvement initiatives.
• Oversee network security architecture, Zero Trust strategies, and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure technical solutions meet enterprise security, performance, scalability, and availability requirements.
• Provide architectural guidance for cloud networking and hybrid infrastructure integration.
• Collaborate with multiple service providers, system integrators, and customer technical teams.
• Lead technical reviews, architecture assessments, risk remediation, and major incident escalations.
• Participate in executive governance meetings and communicate technical strategy to senior leadership.
• Establish architecture best practices and ensure consistent technical delivery across services.

Required Qualifications

• 12–15+ years of experience in enterprise networking, network engineering, and infrastructure architecture.
• 5+ years in a senior technical leadership role such as Technical Director, Chief Network Architect, Director of Network Engineering, or Principal Network Architect.
• Strong expertise in Cisco enterprise networking, routing, switching, LAN/WAN, and wireless technologies.
• Experience with Palo Alto or comparable enterprise firewalls, SD-WAN, VPN, and network security architecture.
• Strong understanding of Zero Trust, SASE, cloud networking, and hybrid network environments.
• Experience with DNS, DHCP, IP Address Management (DDI), and enterprise network monitoring.
• Proven success leading large-scale network transformation and modernization projects.
• Experience working in complex multi-vendor or multi-supplier managed services environments.
• Strong knowledge of IT service management, operational governance, security compliance, and risk management.
• Excellent executive communication, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting state government, public-sector agencies, or large regulated enterprises.
• Familiarity with Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR), Shared Technology Services (STS), or similar statewide IT service delivery models.
• Experience collaborating with a Multi-Sourced Integrator (MSI).
• CCIE, CCDE, CCNP, CISSP, or equivalent advanced technical certifications.
• Experience with Cisco ACI, Cisco DNA Center/Catalyst Center, Palo Alto Networks, cloud networking (AWS/Azure), and network automation.
• Experience leading large-scale NOC and managed network service delivery organizations.
