Backend Engineer (Go/Java)

• Build, run, and improve backend services and microservices that serve tens of millions of users.
• Own features end to end — design, implementation, rollout, and production ownership of what you ship.
• Take part in design reviews: propose a design, explain your trade-offs, and take feedback on both.
• Build features on top of LLMs where they genuinely fit the problem — and say so when they do not.
• Improve the reliability and performance of the services you own, and pay down tech debt as you go.
• Raise code quality around you through reviews, tests, and shared libraries and tooling.
• Sound software design instincts: clean service boundaries, sensible data modeling, and a feel for when a simpler solution beats a clever one. You know the common design patterns and when not to reach for one.
• 3+ years of professional backend experience building and running services in production.
• Strong proficiency in at least one general-purpose language — Go/Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Nodejs
• Working knowledge of Golang — a strong plus. Our backend stack is Go-heavy, but strong engineers pick up a new language fast and we expect you to.
• Experience shipping AI-powered features to production.
• Open source contributions or tech community involvement.
• Working experience with two or more data systems (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis, Kafka, Cassandra), and comfort with Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• AI agents in your daily workflow. What we mean by that is spelled out below, and it is a way of working rather than a list of tools.
• BA or MA in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field — or a competitive programming background in place of one.

• Our engineers use AI agents daily. We look for habit and judgement, not enthusiasm or prompt tricks.
• You verify what comes back. You have caught an agent being confidently wrong.
• You delegate deliberately, and brief it properly — what done looks like, and the context to get there.
• Our code, customer data and credentials stay out of outside tools, and you read a command before an agent runs it.
• You own agent-written code as your own and can defend it.
