About Daiwa Capital Markets America Inc.
Incorporated in 1964, Daiwa Capital Markets America Inc. (“DCMA”) is a New York-based registered securities broker-dealer, a futures commission merchant, a primary dealer of U.S. Treasury securities, and a member of the New York Stock Exchange and other major U.S. exchanges. DCMA’s ultimate parent company is Daiwa Securities Group Inc., one of the largest brokerage and financial services groups in Japan.
Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our Application Development team. This role owns the path from source system to trusted, reportable data: relational database development on Microsoft SQL Server, enterprise ETL, a layered data warehouse on Microsoft Fabric, and the Power BI semantic models that business users consume. The data supported by this role underpins critical finance, treasury, regulatory reporting, and operational business processes.
The successful candidate is a strong SQL and ETL engineer who has already made the move to a modern cloud data platform. You will inherit and stabilize an established Informatica PowerCenter and SQL Server estate while building its successor on Fabric using a Bronze, Silver, and Gold medallion architecture. Equally important, you are comfortable at the reporting layer, designing semantic models and implementing the data entitlement rules that determine what each user is permitted to see.
This is a hands-on engineering position, not an architecture-only role. It requires someone who can keep existing production processes running reliably while incrementally moving the firm onto a modern Microsoft data platform.
About the team
Application Development is responsible for all custom development at DCMA, which gives this role the opportunity to contribute meaningful solutions across every part of the organization. The team is collaborative, supportive, and solution focused. We value problem solvers and creative thinkers who enjoy working directly with the business.
Within the first year, you will
- Assume ownership of the core Finance and Operations Informatica workflows and their supporting SQL Server processes, with other Application Development engineers trained as backups for production support.
- Stabilize and simplify inherited workflows, improving reliability, run time, and maintainability.
- Establish data warehouse standards using a Bronze, Silver, and Gold medallion architecture.
- Deliver the first production data products on Microsoft Fabric, beginning with Finance as the initial target domain and broadening across the business over time.
- Build and certify reusable Power BI semantic models with documented data entitlement rules.
- Introduce source control, deployment pipelines, and documented operational runbooks for data assets.
Core Responsibilities
- Database Engineering & SQL Development: Design, develop, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server objects including schemas, stored procedures, functions, views, and complex queries. Own database design, indexing strategy, query tuning, and performance of high-volume data processes.
- Data Integration & ETL Development: Build, maintain, and optimize enterprise ETL and ELT workflows. Support and rationalize the existing Informatica PowerCenter estate while developing new integrations on the firm’s target platform. Build scalable ingestion, transformation, and distribution processes across internal and vendor data sources.
- Data Warehouse Engineering: Design and build the firm’s analytical data warehouse using a medallion architecture, progressively refining raw data through Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers. Apply dimensional modeling and star schema design to produce curated, reusable data products rather than one-off extracts.
- Semantic Models & Data Entitlement: Develop, tune, and certify Power BI semantic models on top of the Gold layer. Implement row-level security and data entitlement rules so that users see only the data they are authorized to see, and partner with report authors to keep the reporting layer consistent and performant.
- Data Quality, Governance & Production Support: Implement validation, reconciliation, and data quality controls across the pipeline. Monitor production jobs, troubleshoot failures, and perform root cause analysis to maintain uninterrupted data operations for time-sensitive business processes.
- Engineering Practices & Documentation: Apply Git version control, CI/CD, and deployment pipelines to data assets. Follow change and release management standards and maintain technical documentation, data lineage, and support runbooks to a standard that allows the work to be supported by others.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of data engineering, data integration, or database development experience, including significant hands-on Microsoft SQL Server and production ETL or ELT work.
- Hands-on experience delivering a cloud data warehouse or lakehouse and the semantic models built on it.
- Experience supporting mission-critical production environments in a regulated or tightly controlled setting.
Technical Skills
- Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL, including schema design, stored procedures, indexing, and query optimization. Azure SQL experience is a plus.
- ETL and ELT development on an enterprise platform. Informatica Cloud (IDMC) is preferred; Microsoft tooling such as Fabric Data Factory pipelines, Dataflows Gen2, or Azure Data Factory is equally acceptable. Informatica PowerCenter experience is a strong advantage, as it is the firm’s current estate.
- Data warehouse engineering using dimensional modeling and Bronze, Silver, and Gold medallion layering on Microsoft Fabric. Snowflake or a comparable cloud data warehouse will be considered as an alternative.
- Power BI semantic model development, including DAX, Direct Lake, and row-level security for data entitlement.
- Python for data engineering tasks at a working level; deep specialization is not required.
- Microsoft certification such as Fabric Data Engineer (DP-700) or Fabric Analytics Engineer (DP-600) is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in financial services and capital markets, particularly treasury operations, liquidity management, and regulatory reporting, is highly preferred.
- ERP integration experience.
- Experience with cloud or data platform migration programs.
- Comfort working alongside Fabric and Copilot-based AI solutions delivered by other teams.
