We are seeking a highly capable, hands-on Lead Azure & AI/ML Engineer to take technical ownership of our cloud infrastructure, workflow automation, AI/ML engineering, and production delivery.

This is an opportunity for someone who combines deep technical expertise with strong execution, accountability, communication, and emerging leadership capabilities.

Initially, you will operate as a senior individual contributor, personally designing, developing, deploying, and troubleshooting critical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Azure Engineering & Cloud Architecture
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain enterprise applications and automation solutions within Microsoft Azure.
  • Build and optimize Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Azure workflows, and event-driven architectures.
  • Develop solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Automate, Power Apps, and related integration technologies.
  • Implement robotic process automation (RPA) for complex healthcare and enterprise workflows.
  • Design scalable, secure, resilient cloud services using appropriate Azure compute, storage, networking, identity, and integration services.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, optimize system performance, and manage cloud infrastructure costs.

AI/ML Engineering

  • Support the development and production deployment of custom AI and machine learning models for healthcare use cases.
  • Work with data scientists and clinical subject matter experts to operationalize predictive models, clinical classification systems, and document intelligence solutions.
  • Develop and maintain data preparation, feature engineering, model training, validation, inference, and monitoring pipelines.
  • Implement MLOps practices supporting reproducibility, versioning, automated deployment, and ongoing model performance monitoring.
  • Integrate AI/ML services into production workflows and customer-facing applications.
  • Support responsible AI development with particular attention to model reliability, explainability, data security, and clinical validation.

Healthcare Technology & Integration

  • Design and maintain integrations with electronic medical record systems, including Epic, athenahealth, and eClinicalWorks.
  • Work with healthcare interoperability standards and technologies, including HL7, FHIR, C-CDA, and healthcare APIs.
  • Support clinical document ingestion, patient matching, data extraction, classification, and structured data workflows.
  • Develop secure systems for handling protected health information (PHI).
  • Collaborate with clinical and product teams to translate healthcare requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Support healthcare use cases involving risk adjustment, HCC coding, quality measurement, and value-based care.

DevOps, Infrastructure & Production Operations

  • Own and improve CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and related technologies.
  • Implement infrastructure as code, automated testing, release management, and deployment controls.
  • Establish monitoring, logging, alerting, and incident response processes.
  • Maintain high standards for system availability, performance, security, and reliability.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues independently.
  • Improve engineering efficiency through automation, documentation, and repeatable development processes.

Engineering Leadership & Accountability

  • Take end-to-end ownership of assigned engineering initiatives, from requirements through production delivery.
  • Establish clear milestones, technical priorities, and delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate effectively with developers, data scientists, product stakeholders, and external engineering resources.
  • Review code, mentor engineers, and establish engineering best practices.
  • Communicate technical progress, risks, dependencies, and decisions clearly to company leadership.
  • Proactively identify problems and drive solutions without requiring constant supervision.
  • Help build the engineering processes, team structure, and technical standards needed to support company growth.
  • Progress into broader engineering leadership responsibilities based on demonstrated technical execution, ownership, and team performance.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure.
