Senior Data Engineer - Hybrid

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Senior Data Engineer - Hybrid for a contract position with a Global Financial Institution located in Jersey City, NJ. This is a 12 month contract opportunity.

This role will be responsible for working closely with technical leads and Product Owners to deliver and support data, analytics, and reporting functionalities on an enterprise platform. The right candidate will be responsible for hands-on application development and migration of legacy database modules over to a big-data stack using PySpark and Oracle SQL. This position requires a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days per week onsite.

Responsibilities

• Lead data-centric projects with an end-to-end ownership mindset, combining hands-on database development with project planning, team coordination, and delivery accountability
• Proactively manage stakeholder expectations, clarify business requirements, and communicate progress and risks
• Design and implement data pipelines using PySpark and related big data tools, ensuring efficient ingestion, processing, and delivery of large datasets
• Perform deep data analysis, triaging, and identifying data gaps, patterns, and behaviors
• Ensure data integrity, security, and performance in modernized database environments
• Troubleshoot and optimize Spark jobs for performance, including partitioning strategies, caching, and understanding of Spark execution plans
• Lead the migration of legacy database modules over to a big-data stack

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
• 10-12 years of significant experience in Oracle SQL programming and development
• Extensive experience (minimum 8-10 years) in data architecture, database design, or data engineering roles, with a focus on big data
• Deep understanding of PySpark development principles, including RDDs, DataFrames, transformations, and actions, with the ability to write optimized, scalable Spark jobs
• Hands-on experience leveraging AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot to accelerate database development
• Strong grasp of object-oriented programming concepts as they apply within PySpark
• Hands-on knowledge of Hadoop ecosystem components (HDFS, YARN) and Hive
• Experience working with large data sets (~100 million records) and optimizing performance for scalability
• Experience working with large-scale data projects, preferably within the financial services industry
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication, leadership, and team collaboration abilities

Pay range

$58.26 - $66.26 per hour
