Software Engineer – Intern

Role Description

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our globally dispersed team responsible for Harmonic’s clustered compute platform and edge applications. The platform provides a Kubernetes environment for running edge applications that include Harmonic’s virtualized DOCSIS and PON solutions. This position reports to the Senior Director of System Integration.

Location

Hybrid – based in San Jose, CA, with occasional on-site work required.

What you will be doing

• Design, develop, and maintain cloud-native software for Harmonic’s clustered computing platform to support virtualized DOCSIS and PON solutions
• Integrate open-source technologies into Harmonic’s clustered computing platform
• Develop well-tested software components using C++ and Python
• Design and implement enhancements for existing software components
• Design and implement microservices and RESTful APIs that scale horizontally across multiple compute nodes
• Perform root cause analysis of issues in production environments and provide solutions
• Troubleshoot applications end-to-end across networks and microservices
• Adhere to best practices and standards in the areas of technology and security
• Stay current with advancements in technology and evaluate how new technologies can be leveraged to improve business solutions

What you should have

• Proficiency in C++ and Python.
• Understanding of computer networking technologies.
• Understanding of computer architecture
• Experience working with LLMs and writing agentic workflows
• Experience with design and implementation of microservices and RESTful APIs that scale horizontally across multiple compute nodes.
• Troubleshooting applications end-to-end across networks and microservices.
• Expertise delivering high-quality code with extensive unit tests.

Pay & Benefits -

This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week. The estimated hourly range is $30–$35. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market, location, and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process.
