Janitor is building AI interactive entertainment for millions of people. Every day our users create characters, worlds, stories, and relationships with AI, and the surface they do that through is ours to make fast, expressive, and fun. We are looking for an engineer who wants to write the code users actually touch.

This is a hands-on role. Most of your day-to-day is TypeScript, but you'll follow problems into other languages when that's where they live.

What you'll work on

• Shipping product features end to end, frontend, API, and everything between
• The creation tools our users live in: character editors, story tools, chat

Product problems here rarely stay at the surface. A slow feature might be a render problem, a data problem, or an inference problem, and you'll follow it wherever it goes.

You might be a good fit if

• You care what it feels like to use the thing, not just that it works
• You have strong taste and hate overbuilt software
• You can take a vague idea and turn it into something people love
• You ship fast, and sweat details after shipping, not instead of it

Experience with TypeScript, React, or websocket systems helps, but it is not a checklist, we care more about how you think and what you have built.

Why join

This is not a GPT wrapper. Millions of people spend on average more than 85 min/day on Janitor, and what you build affects their experience immediately. We're early enough that one strong engineer can still change the company's direction, and scaled enough that the problems are real.
