WordPress Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a WordPress Developer based in Brazil.

We are seeking an experienced, AI-first WordPress Developer to build, maintain, and optimize websites for U.S.-based cannabis brands. In this role, you will manage full-cycle website development projects, from creating new websites and landing pages to migrations, troubleshooting, and ongoing improvements. You will combine strong technical development skills with modern AI tools to accelerate workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and improve delivery efficiency. Working across multiple client accounts, you will create visually appealing, responsive, accessible, and high-performing digital experiences. You will collaborate with a distributed web development team while focusing primarily on technical execution rather than direct client communication. Accountabilities

• Website Development: Design, develop, and maintain WordPress websites and landing pages, transforming Figma designs into polished, functional pages using WordPress and Elementor.
• AI-Powered Development: Integrate AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor into daily development workflows to accelerate code generation, convert designs into web pages, debug issues, and automate repetitive tasks.
• Website Maintenance: Manage a high volume of ongoing website updates and technical requests across multiple client accounts, including content changes, banners, links, plugin management, and layout adjustments.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Identify, investigate, and resolve complex website issues across different CMS platforms using custom PHP, CSS, JavaScript, and other relevant technologies.
• Design Adaptation: Customize website layouts and visual elements to align with diverse brand identities, ranging from corporate multi-location businesses to creative, streetwear-inspired cannabis brands.
• E-commerce Integrations: Work with cannabis-specific e-commerce platforms and CMS solutions, including Blaze and Treez, and integrate online ordering and menu platforms such as Dutchie, Jane, COVA, and Breadstack.
• Website Migrations and Infrastructure: Support website migrations, DNS configurations, Cloudflare setups, and reverse-proxy implementations to ensure reliable website performance and availability.
• Technical SEO: Implement and maintain technical SEO configurations, including Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Tag Manager (GTM), schema markup, redirects, indexing checks, and Core Web Vitals optimization.
• Accessibility and Compliance: Ensure website launches and updates comply with WCAG accessibility standards and applicable cannabis industry requirements, including age verification systems and state-specific disclaimers.
• Technical Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation covering website architecture, development decisions, configurations, and implementation processes to facilitate knowledge sharing and seamless project handovers.
• Cross-Platform Development: Work with different content management systems and quickly adapt to new technologies and platforms as project requirements evolve.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of professional web development experience, including substantial hands-on coding experience before the widespread adoption of modern AI development tools.
• Previous experience working with U.S.-based clients and within a digital marketing agency is required.
• Strong expertise in WordPress development and experience with multiple page builders, particularly Elementor.
• Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with the ability to write, understand, debug, and optimize underlying code.
• Practical experience with PHP for WordPress customization and troubleshooting.
• Proven ability to manage multiple websites and development requests simultaneously in a fast-paced agency or multi-client environment.
• Strong design sensibility and a portfolio demonstrating visually appealing, functional, and high-performing websites.
• Experience with other CMS and e-commerce platforms, such as Shopify, PrestaShop, Drupal, or industry-specific solutions like Blaze and Treez.
• Ability to quickly learn new platforms, tools, and technologies.
• Active daily use of AI development tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor, supported by concrete examples of how these tools improve development speed, code quality, debugging, or workflow automation.
• Solid understanding of technical SEO fundamentals, including website indexing, structured data, analytics configuration, and performance optimization.
• Knowledge of web accessibility principles and WCAG standards.
• Strong written English communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within asynchronous, remote teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to work independently while managing competing priorities.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience working with cannabis dispensaries, wellness brands, or businesses operating in regulated industries.
• Familiarity with cannabis-specific e-commerce platforms, online ordering systems, and menu integrations.
• Experience with technical SEO for multi-location businesses.
• Knowledge of Cloudflare, DNS management, reverse proxies, and website infrastructure configurations.
• Experience implementing age verification tools and state-specific regulatory disclaimers for cannabis websites.
