Summary of the role
The primary responsibility of this role is to engineer, operate, and continuously improve LS&Co.’s enterprise messaging and event-streaming platforms. As a member of the Event Stream squad within the APIs and Enablement organization, you will help deliver IBM MQ and Apache Kafka platform services supporting applications and workloads across Azure, Google Cloud Platform, AWS, and on-premises environments. These platforms are foundational components of LS&Co.’s broader integration architecture. They support enterprise APIs currently delivered through MuleSoft and play a central role in LS&Co.’s event-driven agentic runtime built using Temporal. This role will partner closely with teams across the organization working on the agent runtime, enterprise APIs, and application services to enable reliable event-driven communication, workflow orchestration, and system integration.
This role combines platform engineering, infrastructure enablement, and production operations. Rather than developing individual application connections, the team focuses on delivering secure, reliable, scalable, and reusable platform capabilities that allow application teams to onboard and manage their integrations successfully. This opportunity provides meaningful autonomy and responsibility within a critical enterprise platform domain. You will work closely with enterprise architects, developers and engineers from domain-aligned teams, business analysts, product managers, and other platform teams to shape technical direction, establish reusable patterns, and move platform capabilities from design through production. The team works collaboratively while giving individual engineers the space to make technical decisions and take responsibility for the reliability, evolution, and impact of the capabilities they lead.
About the role
- Engineer, operate, and continuously improve highly available IBM MQ and Confluent Kafka platform services across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Build secure, scalable, reusable, and increasingly self-service platform capabilities that reduce the need for one-off integration development.
- Support the complete platform lifecycle, including deployment, upgrades, monitoring, incident response, problem management, disaster recovery, and capacity planning.
- Partner with teams working on the Temporal-based agentic runtime, enterprise APIs, MuleSoft services, and domain applications to enable reliable event-driven integration.
- Define reusable patterns for messaging, event streaming, connectors, schemas, routing, retries, idempotency, dead-letter handling, and recovery.
- Apply Domain-Driven Design principles—including bounded contexts, domain events, and explicit integration contracts—to platform and solution designs.
- Develop platform automation, observability, alerting, operational tooling, and technical documentation.
- Facilitate platform onboarding through standards, documentation, consultation, and troubleshooting.
- Lead root-cause analysis and improvements to platform reliability, security, performance, scalability, and developer experience.
- Take ownership of assigned platform capabilities while collaborating closely with architects, engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders.
About you
- 6+ years of experience in software, integration, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
- 4+ years of recent experience designing, implementing, administering, or operating IBM MQ in production environments.
- 1+ years of experience implementing or operating Apache Kafka, preferably Confluent Kafka.
- Experience supporting highly available, business-critical platforms as part of a platform, middleware, infrastructure, or site-reliability team.
- Experience with Linux or Unix and cloud infrastructure in Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or AWS; multi-cloud experience is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of event-driven architecture, distributed systems, enterprise messaging, resiliency, networking, security, and performance management.
- Experience with automation, infrastructure as code, configuration management, or CI/CD is preferred.
- Experience applying Domain-Driven Design principles to events, integrations, or service boundaries is preferred.
- Familiarity with Temporal, MuleSoft, enterprise API platforms, or workflow orchestration is preferred.
- Strong production troubleshooting and root-cause analysis experience, with the ability to make sound technical decisions within an area of ownership.
- Must be able to collaborate effectively with North American and India-based teams.
- Production responsibilities may include scheduled maintenance, incident response, or participation in an on-call rotation.
- The position requires working at a computer or video-display terminal for more than 75% of the working day.
