Team Manager, Data Analytics & Business Intelligence

Reports to

Head of Data

Leads

an established Analytics team

Location

London office, three days a week (in-person role)

Why this role exists

We are a multi-million-pound business where data shapes the moments that matter most, from Results Day to the contractual and regulatory returns that carry our commitments.

Our Analytics team is mature and high-performing

technically excellent, highly automated, trusted with our most critical delivery, and dependable when it matters most.

So this role is not about fixing delivery. That already works, and works well. It exists because a foundation this strong can be reaching even further than it currently does. We want data to be something the business is genuinely led by, present in more decisions, more functions, and more of how the organisation runs day to day. We are hiring a leader to guide that.

You will own our Analytics strategy and lead the team that delivers it, within the wider data strategy set by the Head of Data. Your job is to take an already excellent team and extend its reach and influence across the business.

What you're walking into

An honest picture, because it shapes the job

A strong, mature team. The specialists are excellent and the delivery engine is highly automated and reliable. You are not inheriting a mess to clean up. You are inheriting a capable team that is ready to be pointed outward and led somewhere new.

Critical delivery that has to land. Results Day and our contractual and regulatory returns are immovable and high-consequence. Protecting them reliably is a given, not the ambition.

New capability to harness. The team's maturity is the ideal base from which to adopt new tools and ways of working, including AI, that extend what it can offer the business. Turning that potential into governed, everyday practice is yours to shape.

If leading a strong team to greater influence appeals more than rebuilding a weaker one, this is your role.

Your primary mandate

drive the power and value of data further into the business

In a business where data already informs decisions of real financial and reputational weight, the biggest gains now come from reach, not from efficiency the team has already won.

You will

  • Get data into more decisions and more corners of the business, turning functions into fluent, habitual consumers of insight
  • Make insight something the business leads with rather than checks after the fact, shaping decisions before people think to ask
  • Grow demand, trust and data literacy across the business, so the pull for data increases and the team is sought out as a strategic partner rather than a service
  • Speak the language of value: quantify impact, understand the cost of what the team runs, and make the commercial case for investment where it pays back
  • Feed what you learn on the front line back into the wider data strategy, helping the business get ahead of its data needs rather than only answering them

Adopting new tools and ways of working, including AI, is one of the sharpest levers for the mandate above, and you won't be starting from scratch. Within the team you already have AI leads driving work on AI tooling and agents who are ahead of the curve for the organisation. Your job is not to be the source of that expertise; it is to harness and amplify it. You will give these specialists the support and the connection to real business problems that turn their work from promising into genuinely valuable, set a pragmatic view of where it pays off, and make sure it is adopted responsibly, with the governance, explainability and fairness a regulated environment demands.

You don't need to be the deepest technologist in the room; you have people for that. You need the judgement to spot where their work creates value, and the credibility and influence to take it to the business and bring the team with you.

What you'll own

Analytics strategy. You set the strategy for Analytics across the business and are accountable for delivering it, nested within the overall

Data Strategy

where the team invests, what it stops doing, and how it grows its value.

Critical delivery. You are accountable for the team's immovable commitments, Results Day chief among them, landing reliably and to a high bar of quality and integrity.

The team, and its people. You lead an established team of Analytics specialists at a range of levels, from early-career analysts to senior people ready for their next step. You lead by direction and stretch, not instruction. A core part of the role is developing each of them on their own terms: bringing the junior analysts on with structure and craft, and giving your senior people the stretch, ownership and progression that make staying and growing here the obvious choice. You own their performance, their growth, and the retention of talent this good.

The business relationship. You are the bridge between a deeply technical team and the wider business, shielding the team from noise, translating need into priorities and results into decisions, and building the senior relationships that turn Analytics from a service into a partnership.

What success looks like

In your first 90 days

you understand the team, the critical delivery calendar and the stakeholder landscape; the essentials are safe in your hands; and you have a clear, credible view of where data needs to reach next.

By 6 to 12 months

critical commitments including Results Day have landed reliably; data is visibly reaching further into the business, with under-engaged functions starting to pull for it; and the team has begun adopting new ways of working that extend what it can offer.

Beyond the first year you are judged on outcomes: how widely and how much data is used and trusted across the business, the demonstrable value and return from what the team delivers, the reliability of critical delivery, and the growth and retention of your specialists.

What you'll bring

  • The credibility to lead and earn the trust of experienced technical specialists, whether you built that managing a team directly or leading experts through influence, and the readiness to lead this team directly
  • Emotional intelligence and self-awareness: you build psychological safety, adapt to how different people do their best work, and lead through trust rather than pressure
  • A strong track record of aligning data to business outcomes and driving its value, quantifying impact and making the commercial case
  • A genuine track record of developing people across a range of levels: bringing early-career talent on, and stretching and retaining senior specialists ready for more
  • Business fluency, and confident translation between business need and technical delivery
  • The judgement to adopt new tools and ways of working, including AI, where they add real value, and to do so responsibly

You won't have followed one obvious path to this role, and that's fine. If you've led through product ownership and influence rather than a long line-management history, and you're ready to lead a team directly, we want to hear from you.

How you'll lead, and the culture you'll join

Ours is a warm, collaborative and people-first culture, and we care as much about how things get done as what gets delivered. You lead with empathy and emotional intelligence, build psychological safety, and create an environment where a range of working styles and strengths thrive.

You pair that warmth with resolve

you can hold delivery under real pressure and have the honest conversation when it helps, without ever making it personal or making people feel unsafe. Kind and steady, not soft.

This is an in-person role. We work together from our London office on average three days a week, because this kind of team and culture is built face to face.

Inclusion, and how to apply

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team, and to creating an environment where people of every background and working style can thrive. We particularly value leaders who bring that same instinct to how they build and support their own teams. We're happy to talk about flexible working and what a sustainable version of this role looks like for you. We welcome applicants who meet most of the criteria even if they don't tick every one, and we're glad to discuss any adjustments you need in the recruitment process or the role itself. We'll talk through the team, its scope and the wider remit in detail at first conversation.
