Human Capital

New York

The D. E. Shaw group seeks a people analytics researcher to join its Human Capital Analytics and Products (HCAP) team as a research associate focused on compensation. Members of HCAP are curators of employee data and leverage it to help answer strategic and operational talent questions for leaders across the business. This role offers the opportunity to be part of a collaborative, collegial, and engaging work environment.

What you'll do day-to-day

  • Use inferential statistics and social science research methods to conduct internal studies for business leaders, enabling them to make data-informed decisions about their people.
  • Run analyses with people data, write reports that weave insights together into a compelling narrative, and develop visualizations for an executive audience.
  • Work on a range of people analytics projects related to compensation, including overlap with recruiting, talent assessment, development, management, and retention.

Who we're looking for

  • A bachelor's or advanced degree with an impressive record of academic achievement in statistics, statistics-heavy social sciences, math, computer science, or other technical and quantitative programs, and five to ten years of relevant work experience analyzing data in a business or academic setting.
  • A demonstrated foundation in statistics is required; experience in social science research methods is preferred.
  • Proficiency managing and analyzing data using Python, along with advanced knowledge of Excel and intermediate SQL skills.
  • A willingness to dive into details, collaborate effectively, and drive projects to completion, as well as the ability to exercise discretion with confidential information.
  • Interest in generative AI and a desire to use it to improve and reimagine tools, workflows, and deliverables.
  • People analytics experience is preferred but not required.
