Description

The SRE Project Manager (SPM) is a strategic and execution-oriented leader responsible for driving alignment, visibility, and delivery across multiple SRE engineering teams. This role blends technical program management with agile execution oversight—focusing on infrastructure projects, incident and RCA management, cloud cost optimization, observability tooling, and ongoing platform reliability efforts. SPMs serve as force multipliers for their teams, removing blockers, ensuring clarity of priorities, and enabling engineers to focus on high-impact work. They translate high-level business goals into organized, measurable, and achievable initiatives while upholding high standards of communication, documentation, and follow-through.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead project planning, backlog refinement, sprint execution, and post-mortem ceremonies for one or more SRE teams.
  • Coordinate cross-functional alignment with Dev, Security, and Cloud Engineering partners for work like containerization, version upgrades, and AWS infrastructure changes.
  • Proactively manage Jira hygiene and workflows—ensuring that tickets are well-defined, estimated, assigned, and properly linked to Epics, Themes, and organizational priorities.
  • Track and report progress on reliability, performance, and cost-focused initiatives using dashboards, Confluence documentation, and recurring status updates.
  • Facilitate regular team ceremonies and leadership reviews, keeping meetings focused, data-driven, and outcome-oriented.
  • Support compliance, access control, and decommissioning efforts across cloud and on-prem systems.
  • Identify patterns and areas of opportunity for automation, documentation, and tooling improvements.
  • Act as a steward of engineering time—minimizing context-switching, streamlining workflows, and closing the loop on stale or duplicative work.
  • Contribute to shared documentation and knowledge management across the program.
  • Continuously improve team processes through retrospectives and experimentation.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in technical program management, project management, or product ownership roles in software engineering/development teams.
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum principles and Jira/Confluence best practices (e.g., Dashboards, JQL, Macros).
  • Familiarity with cloud-native technologies (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes, ECS, Terraform).
  • Experience with observability, alerting, and incident response tooling (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, PagerDuty).
  • Comfortable analyzing data to drive decisions and communicating findings clearly to both engineers and executives.
  • High attention to detail, follow-through, and accountability.
  • Empathy and communication skills to work with diverse, distributed engineering teams.

Preferred Qualities

  • Ability to manage ambiguity and bring structure to complex or undefined problem spaces.
  • Systems thinker who can connect day-to-day tasks to larger program and business objectives.
  • Collaborative mindset with a passion for empowering engineers and reducing toil.
  • Familiarity with cost optimization strategies in cloud infrastructure.
  • Previous exposure to infrastructure, SRE, and DevOps concepts.
