DUTIES
Define Strategy
Author and maintain the company’s comprehensive cybersecurity strategy, including program scope, guiding principles, required capabilities, governance models, and a prioritized implementation roadmap.
Assess Cyber Risk
Identify critical assets, systems, and mission functions that must be protected. Assess threats, vulnerabilities, and complex attack scenarios that could result in mission disruption, asset loss, unauthorized access, or system failure, translating findings into actionable mitigation requirements.
Architect Resilience
Define the technical security architecture and capabilities required to monitor, prevent, detect, and recover from cyberattacks. Establish an integrated defense spanning space, ground, communications, and enterprise segments, emphasizing continuity of operations and mission resilience.
Satellite & Payload Security
Partner with systems engineers to embed hardware and software security controls directly into spacecraft systems and avionics, ensuring engineering resilience against command injection, jamming, side-channel attacks, and spoofing.
Ground Segment Protection
Safeguard mission control centers, telemetry, tracking, and control (TT&C) loops, data pipelines, APIs, and terrestrial ground station networks from advanced persistent threats (APTs).
Launch Site & Physical OT Security
Extend defenses to physical launch pads, fuel systems, and integration facilities. Oversee the strict segregation of IT networks from Industrial Control Systems (ICS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) networks, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to prevent corporate threats from impacting launch safety.
Space Asset Incident Response
Design, implement, and drill specialized incident response playbooks tailored for in-orbit anomalies, link disruptions, or hostile takeovers of space assets. Must have ability to identify off-nominal events directly .
Secure Software Development
Implement strict DevSecOps and secure software development lifecycles (SDLC) for flight software, guidance systems, and orbital payload applications.
Supply Chain Vetting
Oversee rigorous hardware and software source-code vetting programs. Monitor software supply chains and manage Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) to ensure malicious firmware, compromised logic boards (specialized PCBs), or counterfeit chips do not enter the launch vehicle or satellite payload.
Federal Compliance
Lead readiness, execution, and continuous compliance for federal cybersecurity frameworks, including NIST SP 800-53, NIST SP 800-171/172, CMMC, DFARS, and ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations).
Space-Specific Policy
Align corporate policies and operations with space-industry directives, including the White House Space Policy Directive 5 (SPD-5) and relevant NOAA/FCC licensing security requirements.
Supply Chain Integrity
Establish rigorous hardware-trust and supply chain verification programs to prevent the introduction of counterfeit or compromised components into spacecraft and/or satellite builds.
