The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Serve as a hands-on senior engineer in a small team, taking responsibility for server-side systems and technical direction. The work spans shipping features across the stack, talking with users to shape requirements, and coaching less experienced colleagues.

What you'll do

• Build and operate dependable server-side services and data workflows, primarily in Python on a major cloud provider.
• Shape architecture and system design choices, using AI-assisted coding to move faster.
• Carry features from concept to release, including light user interface work, so work moves without handoffs.
• Speak directly with customers and technical colleagues to clarify how they work and turn loosely defined requests into working software.
• Coach junior teammates by reviewing their code, discussing designs and pair programming.

Requirements

What we're looking for

• Experience as one of the earliest engineering hires at a business software startup.
• Deep, advanced Python skills applied to server-side systems running in production.
• Solid practical experience with AWS and serverless approaches.
• History of being the primary owner of live backend systems from start to finish.
• A product-oriented outlook and comfort speaking with customers to define needs.
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related STEM discipline.
• Living in or near New York City and able to be in the office 3 days per week.

Bonus points

• Past experience leading technical work or guiding less senior engineers.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development practices.
• Formal degree can be waived for candidates with an outstanding startup engineering record.

Base salary

USD 180,000 to 200,000 per year
