The Position
Roche Diagnostics | R&D Portfolio and Project Management
Warsaw, Poland
Help shape the software and data foundations behind portfolio decisions in Diagnostics R&D. You will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership to connect enterprise systems and build reliable AI capabilities for planners and senior leaders.
The role
Our environment includes Planisware as the portfolio system of record, custom applications, and Snowflake. We are bringing these tools together through shared data models and business definitions, creating the foundation for governed AI that helps users explore portfolio information in plain language.
Your immediate focus will be improving integrations and reducing manual exchanges through email and spreadsheets. Over time, you will shape the architecture and controls that make portfolio data accessible, consistent, and useful for AI-enabled applications.
You will lead critical implementation work and guide engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and shared engineering standards. Prior Planisware experience is helpful but not required; you will develop platform knowledge in the role.
What you will own
- Design and build integrations across Planisware, custom applications, Snowflake, and downstream systems, choosing batch or event-driven approaches according to business needs.
- Deliver critical services, data models, and proofs of concept, and guide the team from design through production and ongoing improvement.
- Build AI capabilities over portfolio data using consistent business definitions, reliable queries, and retrieval where appropriate. Establish access controls, traceability, evaluation, and appropriate human oversight.
- Agree data contracts, ownership, freshness, quality, and service expectations with platform teams, including the team responsible for Snowflake.
- Use AI-assisted development to improve delivery while maintaining code review, testing, security, and applicable validation practices.
- Guide decisions about native platform capabilities and custom development. Present technical options and trade-offs to senior stakeholders within the agreed portfolio and enterprise architecture direction.
What you will bring
- Substantial experience building enterprise systems, typically 7+ years, including technical leadership where data integrity and integration were central challenges.
- A record of taking systems from initial design into production and improving their reliability and maintainability after release.
- The ability to guide engineers, challenge assumptions constructively, and build agreement around technical decisions that balance business value, cost, and risk.
Technical skills
- Software and data engineering: Strong Python and data analytics skills, with experience building maintainable services, data pipelines, and automated tests.
- Data architecture: Enterprise data modeling, shared business definitions, and experience with a warehouse or lakehouse platform such as Snowflake or Databricks.
- Integration and cloud: API design and reliable enterprise integrations, including authentication, error handling, monitoring, and appropriate use of batch or event-driven patterns on AWS or Azure.
- Applied AI: Experience delivering LLM-enabled applications connected to enterprise data or tools, with practical approaches to evaluation, access controls, traceability, and handling unreliable outputs.
- Production engineering: Code review, CI/CD, observability, secure development, and ownership after release. Experience using AI-assisted development tools with appropriate review and testing.
You will work with Quality and Security colleagues to apply risk-based testing, traceability, and change control, meeting the requirements relevant to each system and its intended use.
Helpful additional experience
- Planisware or another enterprise PPM platform, including configuration or integration.
- SAP integrations, OData, or agent tool integration such as Model Context Protocol (MCP).
- Validated GxP systems, diagnostics or life sciences, or portfolio and resource planning workflows.
You do not need every preferred qualification to apply. We value strong engineering judgment, practical delivery experience, and the ability to learn a new platform and business domain.
Why join this team
You will help shape a platform in transition, with meaningful scope to influence its data architecture and AI capabilities. Your work will support the portfolio and resource decisions behind diagnostic development, working across technology and R&D.
The role offers the opportunity to combine hands-on development with technical leadership, solving current integration problems while establishing foundations for future applications.
Why Roche?
- Impact - Your work directly supports the development of diagnostic tests that affect millions of lives
