Sybase DBA

Job Summary

Stratacent is seeking a highly experienced Sybase Database Administrator with 8+ years of hands-on experience in managing, maintaining, and optimizing Sybase ASE, IQ, and Replication Server environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of Sybase databases across development, test, and production environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Sybase ASE, Sybase IQ, and Replication Server.
• Monitor database performance and proactively tune systems for optimal efficiency.
• Perform backup and recovery operations using native Sybase tools and enterprise backup solutions.
• Implement and manage database security, including user access and auditing.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database issues, including performance bottlenecks and replication failures.
• Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting (Shell, Perl, Python).
• Collaborate with application developers and infrastructure teams to support database-related needs.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing.
• Maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and standards .

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience as a Sybase DBA in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in Sybase ASE, Sybase IQ, and Replication Server.
• Proficiency in SQL, T-SQL, and performance tuning techniques.
• Experience with Linux/Unix systems and scripting languages.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., BMC Patrol, OEM, Nagios).
• Knowledge of high availability, clustering, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with migration projects (e.g., Sybase to SQL Server, Oracle, or cloud platforms).
• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of ITIL processes and Agile methodologies.
• Sybase certifications (if available).
