Modern businesses depend on multiple software platforms working together. But connecting these systems isn't always straightforward. Different architectures, data structures, authentication methods and business processes create complex integration challenges.
We're looking for a Senior Integration Engineer who enjoys solving these challenges.
You'll join a software engineering team developing enterprise technology used to manage complex projects and business operations. Your responsibility will be to design, build and maintain reliable integrations between the company's platform and its customers' enterprise systems.
This is a hands-on engineering position combining C# development, API integration, middleware, event-driven architecture and direct customer interaction.
We're not looking for someone who simply connects APIs. We want an engineer who understands how enterprise systems communicate, anticipates potential failures and knows how to build integrations that are reliable, secure and maintainable.
What You'll Be Doing
Design and Deliver Enterprise Integrations
- Take ownership of integration projects from initial requirements and technical design through development, testing and production deployment.
- Design and develop REST APIs using C# and .NET.
- Connect enterprise applications, including ERP, financial management and document management systems.
- Build integrations using APIs, middleware, webhooks, messaging and event-driven architectures.
- Work with synchronous and asynchronous communication patterns, including Kafka-based event processing.
- Implement data mapping, transformation and orchestration between different systems.
- Develop reusable integration components and patterns that simplify future projects.
Make Integrations Reliable
- Design integrations with appropriate error handling, retry mechanisms, logging and monitoring.
- Investigate failures, identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
- Ensure integrations handle duplicate messages, unexpected data and temporary service interruptions.
- Develop automated tests covering APIs, integration workflows and end-to-end scenarios.
- Support integrations running in production and continuously improve their reliability and performance.
- Manage deployments across development, testing and production environments.
Work Directly With Customers
- Collaborate with customers to understand their technical environments, integration requirements and business processes.
- Participate in technical discussions, integration testing and user acceptance testing.
- Troubleshoot customer-reported integration issues and communicate progress clearly.
- Translate complex technical problems into explanations that customers and non-technical stakeholders can understand.
- Work closely with internal engineering, implementation, QA and customer-facing teams.
What We're Looking For
Essential Experience
Enterprise Integration
- At least 5 years of relevant software engineering or enterprise integration experience.
- Proven experience designing, developing and supporting integrations between enterprise applications.
- Strong understanding of middleware, integration architecture and common enterprise integration patterns.
- Experience working with REST APIs, SOAP services, webhooks and messaging systems.
- Understanding of event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing.
- Experience with data mapping, transformation, orchestration and error recovery.
Software Engineering
- Strong hands-on C# and .NET development skills.
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
- Good understanding of API authentication and security, including OAuth 2.0 and JWT.
- Solid SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases.
- Familiarity with automated testing, version control and CI/CD practices.
Troubleshooting and Ownership
- Demonstrated ability to investigate complex integration failures across multiple systems.
- Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting production systems and performing root cause analysis.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities and take responsibility for delivering solutions.
Communication
- Excellent communication skills, particularly when discussing technical issues with customers.
- Confidence participating in customer-facing technical meetings.
- Ability to explain technical problems, proposed solutions and trade-offs clearly.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to work across different engineering and business teams.
Nice to Have
Experience with any of the following would be beneficial, but isn't essential:
- Workato or another enterprise integration platform (iPaaS).
- Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies.
- AWS services, particularly API Gateway, Lambda and IAM.
- SAP, Oracle or other enterprise ERP platforms.
- ETL processes and data integration pipelines.
- GitLab, Postman, pytest and Jira.
- Construction technology, capital project management or project controls software.
You don't need previous Workato experience to succeed in this role. Strong integration engineering fundamentals, C# expertise and the ability to learn new technologies are more important.
Technology Environment
You'll work with a combination of established enterprise technologies and modern integration tools:
- Backend: C#, .NET
- APIs: REST, OpenAPI, SOAP
- Integration: Workato, middleware, webhooks, event-driven architecture
- Messaging: Kafka
- Cloud: AWS, API Gateway, Lambda
- Database: SQL Server
- Security: OAuth 2.0, JWT
- Development tools: GitLab, Postman, Jira
- Testing: API and end-to-end integration testing
What Success Looks Like
Within your first few months, you'll be independently delivering integrations, collaborating directly with customers and contributing to the reliability of the integration platform.
Over time, you'll help establish reusable integration patterns, improve troubleshooting and monitoring capabilities, and make it easier to connect new enterprise systems.
Your work will directly influence how customers exchange data, automate processes and get value from their software.
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging enterprise integrations where your decisions have a direct impact on customers.
You'll have the autonomy to solve complex engineering problems, the opportunity to work across different technologies and the responsibility to see your solutions through from design to production.
If you enjoy understanding how systems work, solving problems that cross application boundaries and building technology that customers can depend on, we'd like to hear from you.
