About the role

As a Senior Technical Consultant, you will deliver business-critical CCH software installations, upgrades and server migrations within customer-managed IT environments.

This is a hands-on technical role suited to someone with strong Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL and Windows infrastructure experience who enjoys solving complex technical challenges.

You will work directly with customers to ensure successful project delivery, minimise operational risk and provide expert technical guidance throughout implementation and migration activities.

While experience with CCH products is beneficial, it is not essential. We are looking for strong technical problem solvers with the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

The role includes planned evening and occasional weekend work to support customer deployments outside of core business hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver software installations, upgrades and server migrations from planning through to completion.
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Perform database backup, restore and migration activities.
  • Use T-SQL to investigate and resolve database and application issues.
  • Troubleshoot Windows Server, authentication, permissions, networking and application deployment issues.
  • Support and diagnose issues within Citrix, Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and Azure Virtual Desktop environments.
  • Analyse Windows, application and SQL Server logs to identify root causes.
  • Use PowerShell and other automation tools to support delivery and troubleshooting activities.
  • Work directly with customer IT teams and third-party providers to resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure appropriate recovery and rollback procedures are in place for all business-critical work.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and handover materials.
  • Contribute to process improvements, automation initiatives and knowledge sharing.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience within IT infrastructure, technical support or application support environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server.
  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server administration and T-SQL skills.
  • Experience with SQL Server backup, restore and database migration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and write diagnostic SQL queries.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting business-critical applications.
  • Experience with Citrix, RDS, Azure Virtual Desktop or similar technologies.
  • Solid understanding of networking, authentication, permissions and application dependencies.
  • Experience using technical logs and diagnostic tools to investigate incidents.
  • PowerShell or similar scripting experience.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions under pressure.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills.
  • Flexibility to support agreed evening and weekend work requirements.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • C# and .NET development or code-review experience.
  • Software development background.
  • Experience diagnosing application issues through source code, logs and database analysis.
  • Advanced SQL Server performance tuning and administration.
  • Experience developing automation or diagnostic tooling.
  • Knowledge of Wolters Kluwer CCH products or similar professional services software.

Key Behaviours

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ownership and accountability for delivering results.
  • Calm, methodical approach in high-pressure situations.
  • Curiosity and persistence when investigating unfamiliar issues.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development.
  • Collaborative approach with strong knowledge-sharing habits.
  • Professional and confident customer communication.
  • Good judgement in managing technical risk, escalation and recovery planning.

Our Interview Practices

To maintain a fair and genuine hiring process, we kindly ask that all candidates participate in interviews without the assistance of AI tools or external prompts. Our interview process is designed to assess your individual skills, experiences, and communication style. We value authenticity and want to ensure we’re getting to know you—not a digital assistant. To help maintain this integrity, we ask to remove virtual backgrounds and include in-person interviews in our hiring process. Please note that use of AI-generated responses or third-party support during interviews will be grounds for disqualification from the recruitment process.
