Senior Systems Engineer

VMware / Hybrid Data Center

Location: Remote (US)

Compensation: $50/hr

Responsibilities

• Remediate the VMware estate for configuration drift, hardening, patch and firmware currency, and end-of-life items.
• Provision compute, storage, and network capacity for integration workstreams, including VM builds and template standardization.
• Administer Windows Server and Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) systems, covering patching, Group Policy, monitoring coverage, and backup verification.
• Run all work through change management. Maintain runbooks and produce audit evidence for SOC 2, HITRUST, HIPAA, and PCI DSS.
• Execute changes in maintenance windows, including occasional off-hours work, with tested rollback plans.
• Hand off work cleanly to the permanent team at the end of the engagement.

Required Skills

• VMware (must have): vSphere and vCenter, DRS, HA, vMotion, and Lifecycle Manager. Cloud-only virtualization experience does not qualify.
• Windows Server: Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, certificate services, and patching.
• Linux: RHEL/Ubuntu, systemd, shell scripting, and storage and filesystems.
• Storage, backup, and networking: SAN/NAS, tested backup and recovery, VLANs, routing, firewalls, and load balancing.
• Process: Change management, rollback planning, runbooks, and experience in regulated environments.

Experience

• 8+ years of hands-on systems administration in enterprise data centers.

3+ years in regulated healthcare, health payments, or financial services
