Senior Software Engineer - AI Engineering (Remote)

Position Purpose

The Sr. Software Engineer – AI Engineering builds and ships generative AI agent experiences for Home Depot customers. The role also covers the React front ends customers use to reach those agents.Most of the team's work is agentic production work on Google Cloud, and all of it is done

AI-first

engineers use agentic coding tools like Claude Code to deliver software end to end and own the plan, testing and production outcome. You will help improve the AI-first development system the team already uses: you'll spot gaps, research better approaches and bring what you learn back to the team. You'll join a remote team of skilled, proficient engineers and partner closely with product, UX and principal engineers. Together you build, deploy and support production applications and share ownership of security, resilience, performance and production monitoring.

Physical Requirements

• Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Working Conditions

• Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be eighteen years of age or older.
• Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2-4 years of relevant work experience
• Experience writing production Python services.
• Experience building LLM agents with Google Agent Development Kit (ADK) or LangChain, including tool calling.
• Experience designing, testing and versioning prompts, and measuring whether a prompt change made the output better or worse.
• Experience with large distributed systems, especially multi-agent systems and how they're orchestrated.
• Experience running AI systems in production on Google Cloud, including Vertex AI Agent Engine or a similar agent runtime. That includes tracking latency, cost, output quality and safety, and securing services with authentication and authorization.

Minimum Education

• The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
