This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Data Engineering Specialist I – Kafka & AWS based in Brazil.

Join a senior engineering team building a new planning and demand management platform that supports Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes. You will play a key role in designing and evolving the platform's data infrastructure, managing the full data lifecycle from event ingestion to processing, business rule application, routing, and distribution. Working with Kafka, AWS, PostgreSQL, and modern data architectures, you will help build scalable and reliable data solutions. This is a product still taking shape, offering opportunities to influence technical decisions and contribute to both technical and business discovery. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders in an environment that values autonomy, adaptability, and continuous improvement. As part of an AI-first team, you will also use generative AI tools thoughtfully to improve development workflows and productivity.

Accountabilities

As a Data Engineering Specialist, you will take ownership of key components of the platform's data architecture, ensuring reliable data flows, effective business logic, and high-quality engineering practices.

• Build and evolve data ingestion pipelines using Kafka and Amazon MSK, consuming analytical data from GCP and transferring it into AWS environments.
• Model, manipulate, and optimize data in PostgreSQL and Amazon RDS using advanced SQL and stored procedures.
• Implement business rules and contribute to the development of rule engines.
• Manage data routing and distribution through event-driven architectures and Apache Iceberg.
• Participate in technical refinement sessions, translating business requirements into practical technical solutions, including when requirements or context are still evolving.
• Ensure the quality and reliability of deliverables through automated testing, attention to metrics, vulnerability awareness, and code reviews.
• Review colleagues' code and contribute to engineering standards and continuous improvement.
• Integrate AI tools into everyday development workflows, critically evaluating their output and ensuring the quality of generated solutions.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced backend developer or data engineer who combines strong technical expertise with business awareness and the ability to navigate evolving product environments.

• Solid professional experience as a senior or more experienced backend developer or data engineer.
• Practical experience with Kafka or another event-driven architecture.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and advanced SQL, including stored procedures.
• Hands-on experience with AWS.
• Experience with automated testing and software quality practices.
• Strong programming skills and the ability to develop reliable, maintainable solutions.
• Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and understand how systems interact.
• Adaptability, initiative, and confidence working in an evolving environment where requirements and technical decisions are still being defined.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a senior engineering team.

The following qualifications are considered an advantage

• Experience with Apache Iceberg, lakehouse platforms, or other modern data architectures.
• Familiarity with supply chain operations, demand planning, or Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP).
• Experience designing or implementing business rule engines.
• Experience using AI-powered development tools such as Cursor or similar solutions.
