This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Engenheiro de Dados Sênior — Foco em Governança, Catálogo & FinOps Operacional (GCP) based in Brazil.

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to strengthen data governance, security, and operational FinOps across a Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data ecosystem. In this role, you will design and implement automated solutions that improve data cataloging, traceability, privacy, and cost efficiency. You will work extensively with BigQuery and Dataplex, developing metadata pipelines, governance policies, and cost optimization practices. Your work will help ensure that data assets remain reliable, discoverable, secure, and efficiently managed. You will also contribute to data quality standards, contractual definitions, and automated validation processes integrated into CI/CD workflows. Working closely with technical and business teams, you will help establish measurable governance practices and improve the overall health of the data platform.

Accountabilities

• Implement and continuously improve data governance capabilities on GCP using Dataplex Catalog, Aspect Types, Entry Groups, Business Glossary, Data Lineage, and Data Profiling.
• Develop automated processes for metadata collection, cataloging, and enrichment using Python, SQL, Dataform/dbt, APIs, and AI/LLMs, including the mapping of Looker Studio dashboards and data sources.
• Monitor and optimize BigQuery costs by analyzing jobs, storage consumption, reservations, and unused tables through INFORMATION_SCHEMA and Cloud Billing.
• Establish and automate FinOps policies, including job and table cost labeling, consumption alerts, project and user quotas, maximum_bytes_billed controls, and table archiving or deletion.
• Automate BigQuery security and privacy policies using Cloud IAM, Policy Tags, Column-Level Security (CLS), Row-Level Security (RLS), Dynamic Data Masking, and Sensitive Data Protection (Cloud DLP), ensuring compliance with Brazil’s LGPD data protection requirements.
• Define Data Contracts, YAML/JSON schemas, and schema evolution rules, integrating automated validations into CI/CD pipelines.
• Develop dashboards and indicators to monitor data governance, cloud costs, and Data Lake health.
• Provide technical and consultative guidance to engineering teams and business stakeholders on governance, security, and cost optimization practices.

Requirements

• Strong professional experience in Data Engineering and data governance on GCP, particularly with BigQuery and Dataplex, including the current Dataplex Catalog architecture, Aspect Types, and Entry Groups.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL for automation, auditing, and metadata pipeline development.
• In-depth knowledge of BigQuery INFORMATION_SCHEMA, Cloud Audit Logs, BigQueryAuditMetadata, Cloud Billing, and GCP APIs, including the Looker Studio API.
• Hands-on experience with FinOps and BigQuery cost optimization, including On-Demand pricing, Editions/Slots, Logical and Physical Storage, Time Travel, partitioning, and clustering.
• Solid understanding of data security and privacy practices, including Cloud IAM, Policy Tags, CLS, RLS, dynamic masking, and LGPD compliance.
• Experience defining and implementing Data Contracts, YAML/JSON Schema, schema evolution practices, and CI/CD validation processes.
• Understanding of performance and caching implications associated with BigQuery security policies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate governance and cost-management needs into practical technical solutions.
• Nice to have:
• Experience with Sensitive Data Protection (Cloud DLP) and automated sensitive-data classification.
• FinOps Certified Practitioner or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Security / Data Engineer certifications.
• Familiarity with Data Contract standards such as ODCS and Data Contract Specification.
• Experience with LLMs, AI agents, and tools such as Antigravity for metadata enrichment and semantic data classification.
• Practical experience with Dataform/dbt and automated data cataloging and documentation.
