Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Jobgether. We’ll keep it in your applied jobs, so you can see it later and be warned before applying to the same employer twice.

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer based in Australia.

We’re looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to help shape the future of reliability, observability, and platform performance across a large-scale product environment. You’ll play a key role in designing standardized, intelligent monitoring systems that support modern, AI-driven and agentic-first software development practices. Working within a central Observability team, you’ll build robust telemetry architectures and data pipelines that give engineering teams deeper insights into system health and performance. Your work will help improve reliability under load, optimize cloud infrastructure, and accelerate software delivery across multiple product teams. You’ll collaborate with engineers across Australia and New Zealand in a highly autonomous, transparent, and technically innovative environment. This is an opportunity to influence engineering standards and build scalable solutions that make complex systems easier to operate and improve.

Accountabilities

  • Design and build standardized data pipelines and telemetry architectures that support intelligent, agentic-first development workflows.
  • Implement OpenTelemetry standards and vendor-agnostic instrumentation across distributed applications and cloud environments.
  • Develop and improve observability capabilities for distributed tracing, metrics collection, and log aggregation.
  • Drive platform efficiency and cloud cost optimization by monitoring infrastructure performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Design automated alerting systems and reliability scorecards to improve incident investigation, system health monitoring, and operational decision-making.
  • Establish consistent observability and reliability standards across product teams, helping improve platform performance and engineering practices.
  • Investigate complex distributed system behavior, identify performance bottlenecks, and support reliable operation under high workloads.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers and product development teams to share expertise, solve technical challenges, and strengthen organization-wide reliability practices.
  • Contribute to the development of intelligent operational workflows and automation that improve how engineering teams monitor, maintain, and release software.

Requirements

  • Strong experience managing distributed tracing, metrics, and log aggregation in large-scale cloud environments.
  • Practical knowledge of OpenTelemetry standards and vendor-agnostic instrumentation approaches.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture, including the ability to diagnose complex platform behavior and performance issues under high load.
  • Interest in artificial intelligence tools, intelligent operational workflows, and automated data modeling.
  • Experience designing or improving observability frameworks, telemetry systems, and reliability practices across distributed applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to take ownership of complex reliability challenges from initial design through implementation.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to share technical knowledge and work effectively across multiple engineering teams.
  • A proactive and autonomous approach, with a focus on continuous improvement, experimentation, and raising engineering standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote, geographically distributed team environment.

Benefits

  • Flexible remote working: Work remotely from locations across Australia's Eastern time zones.
  • Hybrid flexibility: Option to work entirely from home or access modern office spaces in Sydney and Melbourne.
  • Collaborative team environment: Work alongside a central Observability team and engineering colleagues across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Technical ownership: Opportunity to influence platform-wide reliability standards, observability architecture, and engineering practices.
  • Innovation and experimentation: Work with modern telemetry technologies, AI-driven operational workflows, and intelligent automation.
  • Professional impact: Help improve the reliability, efficiency, and performance of systems supporting a broad product ecosystem.
