Job Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Software Engineer with strong Python, SQL, and AWS experience to join a technology team supporting a leading global investment firm.

The ideal candidate has 4–7+ years of software development experience, a strong engineering background, and experience building and deploying solutions within complex enterprise environments.

This role requires someone who can independently take technical requirements, design solutions, write production-ready code, and drive projects through completion. We are looking for a proactive, confident engineer who thrives in a collaborative but lean team environment and requires minimal oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain software applications, APIs, services, and data pipelines using Python.
• Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries to support application functionality and data processing.
• Develop and support solutions within AWS cloud environments.
• Take ownership of engineering projects from initial requirements through development, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Work within existing enterprise architecture and infrastructure to build scalable, reliable solutions.
• Collaborate with quantitative, risk, and other technical teams to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
• Independently evaluate technical challenges, make design decisions, and implement appropriate solutions.
• Troubleshoot application performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and maintain code quality.
• Contribute to engineering initiatives in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Required Qualifications

• 4–7+ years of professional software engineering or development experience.
• Strong, recent hands-on Python development experience.
• Proficiency in SQL, including writing and optimizing complex queries.
• Experience working with AWS cloud environments and navigating AWS services.
• Experience developing applications, APIs, backend services, or production data pipelines.
• Proven ability to build software solutions from scratch and take projects through production.
• Experience working within large-scale enterprise technology environments and established architecture.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, application design, testing, and deployment.
• Ability to independently translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Strong problem-solving, technical decision-making, and communication skills.
• Must currently reside within commuting distance to NYC
• Self-motivated, proactive approach with demonstrated ownership of engineering deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working on smaller or lean engineering teams within large enterprise organizations.
• Background in financial services, investment management, or other complex enterprise environments.
• Experience building scalable, reusable applications or services used by multiple teams.
• Experience collaborating with quantitative, risk management, or analytics teams.
• Demonstrated career progression and increasing technical responsibility.
