AI Platform Operations Engineer

What you'll bring

• You should have solid expertise in infrastructure and cloud technologies. This includes TCP/IP and Linux. It also involves containerization, virtualization, and Kubernetes. Knowledge of cloud platforms is also important. AWS is preferred, but Azure or GCP are also welcome.
• Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation, preferably using Terraform to deliver and manage cloud-based services and environments.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD and software delivery automation, using tools such as Jenkins and/or GitHub Actions, within agile product delivery environments.
• Demonstrable skills in system design, development, and observability, with the ability to build reliable, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
• Solid knowledge of security architecture and engineering, including the integration of security principles and controls into system design.
• Solid programming and scripting skills, with proficiency in Python and Bash, combined with a structured approach to troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• Proven experience in technical support (L1/L2/L3), with a well-developed service mindset and focus on effective issue resolution.
• Interest and experience in AI-assisted and agentic engineering, including day-to-day AI adoption; experience with Databricks, particularly across cloud-based AI, data engineering, or ML workloads, is a plus.

What you'll build

You'll take ownership of platform components and collaborate across engineering, product, security, and cloud operations teams. You're expected to understand how the components you own connect to the broader platform architecture and operational landscape, including security, automation, observability, reliability, and upstream and downstream dependencies. You'll proactively identify risks and operational issues before they become incidents, contribute to architecture and security discussions, and take ownership of infrastructure components and platform-specific solutions.

You'll deliver and review infrastructure as code, support provisioning and troubleshooting activities, and help operate business-critical AI and data workloads in line with defined SLAs. A systematic approach to root-cause analysis, a solid service mindset, and active participation in system reviews, retrospectives, documentation, best practices, and continuous improvement are part of how this team operates. This role provides the foundation for growing from ownership of individual platform components toward designing and operating complete platform systems.

Where you belong

The CPIT Enterprise AI Infrastructure and AI Foundation Team operates as a squad of specialized FDEs deployed to multiple scrum teams delivering the platforms hosting all SAP internal data engineering and Agentic AI workloads. We boast mature technical leadership and established good engineering practices. We are a fully-fledged agile team organized and operating according to the SAFe framework.
