Who are we?
At Vertiv, we’re on a mission to empower the people that will power the future. From a simple swipe to life-changing medicines, from push notifications to generative AI. We design, manufacture, and service the products and solutions that keep the world connected. With $6.9 billion in sales, a strong customer base and global reach spanning nearly 70 countries, we are uniquely positioned to deliver greater value to our customers and create new opportunities for our people.
We are now looking for an Application Development and Support Specialist to join our team in Cluj-Napoca, Romania!
The Application Development and Support Specialist will report to the EMEA Process Improvement Manager within the Technology Application Engineering and Market Development function. The role is a dual-focus position, split approximately equally between product configurator development in Tacton CPQ and visualisation logic development connecting the configuration model to 3D assets.
On the configurator side, the role covers product modelling, configuration rules and constraints, pricing logic and JavaScript development within Tacton CPQ, as part of the migration from Configure One. On the visualisation side, the role is responsible for the code layer that binds configuration attributes to 3D behaviour — visibility, geometry swapping, transformations, materials and camera control — authored and maintained through Tacton VizStudio.
The position works in close cooperation with the 3D Visualisation Artist, who produces the 3D assets, and with Vertiv engineering and product management. The successful candidate will be trained through a structured shadowing model alongside Tacton’s visualization team.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Visualisation logic development (approximately 50%)
- Develop and maintain the JavaScript logic that connects the Tacton CPQ configuration model to 3D assets, controlling component visibility, geometry substitution, positioning, materials, animation and camera behaviour.
- Implement option-to-geometry mapping in code, translating configuration rules and attribute values into the correct visual result for every valid configuration.
- Author, test and publish visualisation logic through Tacton VizStudio and the associated visualisation runtime.
- Define and communicate the technical requirements that 3D assets must satisfy — naming conventions, object hierarchy, pivot points, material slots — and act as the technical counterpart to the 3D Visualisation Artist.
- Debug and resolve visualisation defects, including mismatches between configuration state and rendered output.
- Optimise runtime performance of visual configurators across supported browsers and devices.
- Build and maintain reusable script libraries, patterns and templates so that each new product family does not start from zero.
- Document visualisation logic standards and contribute to the internal visualisation production pipeline.
CPQ development (approximately 50%)
- Create and maintain digital product models for Vertiv products and services in Tacton CPQ, based on defined product specifications, option tables and product data structures.
- Define and build optimal model architecture, configuration rules and constraints, adhering closely to existing architectural blueprints and guidelines so that models remain consistent regardless of developer.
- Develop JavaScript functions for product sizing, performance and costing calculations, as well as for string manipulation and data management.
- Build clean, optimal and user-friendly application UI within the configurator.
- Guide product models through alpha and beta testing to official release, working closely with user testers to ensure feedback is captured and addressed prior to release.
- Perform periodic updates to released product models — adding or removing options, updating JavaScript, updating pricing and costing tables.
- Support the day-to-day administration of the CPQ application and its integrations with enterprise systems such as ERP, CRM and pricing tools.
- Support ticket-based maintenance and bug fixing (ServiceNow), and drive issues related to configuration tools to resolution.
Shared responsibilities
- Translate business and engineering requirements into technical specifications, and identify and document functional gaps.
- Participate in solution architecture reviews with project teams prior to development activities.
- Collaborate with geographically and culturally diverse stakeholders across engineering, product management, sales and IT.
- Track assigned tasks, deliverables, risks and issues, attend project ceremonies and report progress to management when required.
- Develop best practices and user guides, and deliver mentoring and ad-hoc training to new users and team members.
School Background & Basic Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering Systems or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
- Experience working in an international environment is considered an advantage.
Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on JavaScript development skills — this is the core technical requirement of the role and applies to both the configurator and the visualisation layer.
- Experience with Configure-Price-Quote (CPQ) platforms is preferred; experience with Tacton CPQ, Configure One, Oracle CPQ or similar tools is highly desirable.
- Experience with product configuration modelling, constraints-based and rule-based configuration, and product data structures (BOM, variants, constraints).
- Understanding of core 3D concepts — scene graphs, object hierarchies, coordinate systems, transformations, materials and cameras — sufficient to reason about and manipulate 3D scenes programmatically.
- Knowledge of Tacton VizStudio, Tacton Studio and Tacton Admin is ideal; structured training and vendor-led shadowing will be provided.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git) to manage a shared codebase and collaborate with other developers.
- Experience with ticket-based software development environments (ServiceNow preferred) is a plus.
- Experience with Quote-to-Order or Opportunity-to-Order systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of Python, Java, VB.NET or SQL is preferred.
- Familiarity with CAD data and engineering formats (STEP, PTC Creo, SolidWorks) is an advantage.
- Good practical use of the Microsoft Office 365 suite, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI and Visio; SharePoint and Smartsheet experience is preferred.
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the patience to debug behaviour that spans configuration logic, code and 3D geometry.
- Ability to work within defined guidelines — model structure and JavaScript conventions are shared across a large project team and must be respected.
- Ability to multi-task across parallel workstreams, including reactive support tickets alongside long-term model build projects.
- Strong attention to detail; product models and configuration requests are large and highly nuanced.
- Strong listening and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Openness to learning new technologies, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
Travel Expectation
- Occasional travel within EMEA may be required to support project activities, scoping workshops and on-site collaboration with the Tacton team (estimated up to 10–15%).
