Forward Deployed Engineer

About the Role

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and client delivery for a consulting organization that builds production-grade applications, data pipelines, and AI-powered workflows for clients across industries. You will own the technical solution end to end, from early prototype through production on live client data, working alongside a Delivery Manager who owns scope and business outcomes. The work spans post-acquisition data migrations, document pipelines, custom operational apps, CRM and revenue operations, and agentic systems that automate repetitive work.

The ideal candidate has four or more years of real production ownership, is fluent in TypeScript across the full stack, and has hands-on experience building and debugging agentic systems. You are comfortable turning an incomplete brief into working software, making practical implementation decisions without waiting for every detail to be specced out, and communicating clearly with both operators and executives on-site. You are based in New York and comfortable traveling to client sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Delivery Manager and client stakeholders to understand workflows, inspect real examples, and define what the application needs to do
• Build working versions early to test assumptions, run client demos, and iterate from direct feedback
• Take applications into production on real client data, agreeing on milestones and delivery tradeoffs and surfacing scope or timeline changes before making new commitments
• Own testing, debugging, production fixes, and ongoing improvements; handle incomplete inputs and errors; and make failures visible and recoverable
• Integrate clean data into ERPs, CRMs, and data warehouses; stand up agents that handle repetitive operational work
• Reuse existing components where they fit and bring recurring client patterns back to the core engineering team for shared tooling
• Explain technical choices clearly to non-technical stakeholders and raise blockers with a diagnosis and a proposed next step

Required Skills & Experience

• 4+ years building and delivering production software with real ownership of outcomes
• Fluency in TypeScript with practical React, Node.js, API, and database experience across frontend, backend, and database layers
• Practical Python and SQL experience for integrations, data processing, and AI workflows
• Demonstrated experience with agentic systems: ability to show what you have built, explain where it failed, and describe how you fixed it
• Ability to verify generated code and explain and debug everything you deliver
• Strong implementation judgment: turning incomplete briefs into working software and asking focused questions when something is unclear
• NYC-based and comfortable traveling to client sites

Preferred Skills

• Experience working directly with executives or operators in a client-facing or consulting context
• Familiarity with post-M&A data migration or data reconciliation work
• Experience replacing manual or spreadsheet-driven workflows with production software
• Comfort working without detailed engineering tickets and keeping code simple, readable, and easy to change
