Job Description

We are hiring a Senior SDET for Quality Assurance team. You will design and grow Playwright automation and the tooling around it, and you will use

AI across the quality lifecycle

requirements analysis, test authoring, coverage review, debugging, and reporting. You will also own functional quality for your assigned applications. That includes manual and exploratory testing when human judgment is the better instrument. Automation and AI take the repeatable work so your manual effort goes where it adds the most value. You will work on applications that support ICE financial-markets infrastructure.

A miss here is not cosmetic

defects can affect trading, clearing, data integrity, or regulatory evidence. We need someone who tests with that risk in mind. This is a hands-on Senior individual contributor role. You will influence design through code, reviews, and pairing. You will not manage people, and you will not be the sole owner of the organization-wide framework.

Responsibilities

  • Test automation
  • Design, build, and maintain Playwright automation across UI, API, and integration layers.
  • Evolve the shared framework: page and component abstractions, fixtures, test data, environment configuration, CI/CD integration, and reporting.
  • Apply automation standards and design patterns that keep suites fast, reliable, and readable.
  • Reduce flakiness and improve execution speed through metrics and root-cause analysis.
  • Run automated suites in CI/CD and partner with DevOps on environments and pipeline reliability.
  • AI-enabled quality workflow
  • Use AI coding agents in your daily workflow to accelerate automation authoring, refactoring, debugging, and maintenance.
  • Use AI tooling to review requirements for ambiguities, missing edge cases, and untestable criteria before development begins.
  • Generate test cases from requirements, then refine, consolidate, and prioritize them with engineering judgment. You own the final suite, not the model.
  • Find coverage gaps, duplicate effort, and weak assertions in existing suites.
  • Adopt and extend AI tooling where it pays off. Building custom agent skills or MCP servers is a plus, not the core of the job.
  • Functional test ownership
  • Own functional coverage and test strategy for assigned applications across UI, services, and integration points.
  • Decide what to automate and what to keep manual based on risk, stability, execution frequency, and maintenance cost. Expect a mix of automation and exploratory work, weighted toward automation once a flow is stable.
  • Perform manual, exploratory, and scenario-based testing where human judgment matters most.
  • Triage, reproduce, and document defects, and drive them to resolution.
  • Provide evidence-based release readiness to engineering and product leadership.
  • Produce clear reporting on coverage, execution results, defect trends, and release risk.
  • Technical influence
  • Raise the quality of automation through code review and pairing with QA engineers.
  • Share practical patterns for automation, AI-assisted testing, and when manual testing is still the better approach.
  • Partner with software engineers, product managers, and DevOps to move quality work earlier in the delivery cycle.
  • What you will work with
  • Playwright, TypeScript or JavaScript, Node, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • AI coding agents used as part of normal engineering work.
  • Jira and Xray (or equivalent) for defects, plans, and execution evidence.
  • API testing against REST and, where present, GraphQL.

Knowledge and Experience

  • 7+ years in software quality engineering or SDET roles, including 5+ years of hands-on test automation.
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright or a comparable modern E2E framework (Cypress, WebdriverIO, or similar), including suite structure, test data, and CI execution—not only recording or copying tests.
  • Strong TypeScript or JavaScript and sound software engineering fundamentals: modular design, version control, code review, and refactoring.
  • Applied experience using AI-assisted engineering tools in a routine workflow (coding agents, AI-assisted test authoring, or AI-supported requirements and code analysis).
  • API test automation experience across REST or GraphQL.
  • Experience contributing to a test automation framework and integrating automated tests into CI/CD.
  • Strong functional testing foundation: test design techniques, risk-based prioritization, boundary and negative testing, and structured exploratory testing.
  • Working knowledge of Jira, Xray, or equivalent defect and test management tools.
  • Clear written and verbal communication. Test plans, defect reports, and quality summaries should be usable asynchronously.
  • Ability to work on-site in Atlanta five days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep Playwright experience: framework architecture, flakiness mitigation, test data strategy, and execution at scale in CI.
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding agents and AI tools.
  • Experience creating AI agent skills, custom agents, or Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.
  • Contract testing experience.
  • Experience helping a QA team adopt automation and AI practices in a practical, sustainable way.
  • Background in a regulated or high-reliability domain, ideally financial markets, trading, clearing, or market data.
