Position Overview
The Fountain Group is hiring an experienced Senior DevOps Python Developer for a prominent client in the healthcare and medical device industry.
This position offers the opportunity to lead the development of enterprise-level Python back-end services, automation solutions, and AI-integrated tools within a large, global healthcare organization.
The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of professional Python development experience, with strong expertise in FastAPI, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and automated testing. This individual will own end-to-end development, establish technical standards, build scalable API integrations, and mentor other developers.
A key component of this role involves developing and documenting services exposed through Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, enabling AI agents and engineering teams to interact with enterprise applications and tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain production-level Python back-end services and REST APIs using FastAPI, asynchronous programming, and object-oriented design principles.
- Develop and maintain Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and tools that expose enterprise applications, services, and APIs to AI agents and engineering teams.
- Create MCP tool schemas, technical documentation, and usage guidelines for both AI agents and human users.
- Design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitLab, incorporating automated testing, code quality checks, and security scanning.
- Build, secure, containerize, and deploy applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and serverless platforms.
- Develop custom API integrations and interfaces across multiple enterprise applications and internal systems.
- Establish and enforce best practices for Python development, code quality, automated testing, observability, logging, metrics, tracing, and secrets management.
- Lead code reviews, define development standards, and improve Python packaging, dependency management, and documentation processes.
- Develop and maintain unit, integration, and functional test suites using pytest and mocking frameworks.
- Write and maintain technical procedures and documentation for implementation teams, operations administrators, and developers.
- Collaborate with engineering, customer, and solution teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex application, integration, and deployment issues while delivering reliable, repeatable solutions.
- Mentor other developers, provide technical guidance, and promote engineering best practices.
- Independently manage development priorities while maintaining security, compliance, and operational standards.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional Python development experience, including production back-end applications and services.
- Strong hands-on FastAPI experience, including asynchronous Python, REST API design, Pydantic, and object-oriented design patterns.
- Strong experience with Jenkins and GitLab CI/CD pipelines, including pipeline development, automation, testing, and deployment.
- Hands-on Docker and Kubernetes experience, including containerization, deployment, orchestration, and kubectl.
- Advanced knowledge of automated testing using pytest, including unit testing, integration testing, functional testing, mocking, and test strategy.
- Experience with Git version control, branching strategies, merge requests, and code review workflows.
- Experience with Python packaging and dependency management tools, including pyproject.toml, uv, Poetry, or private package registries.
- Experience implementing secure coding practices, secrets management, and application security controls.
- Strong API integration, troubleshooting, and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to independently lead technical initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing, deploying, or integrating Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers.
- Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), AI agents, or AI-powered development tools.
- Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Experience with Ansible Automation Platform.
- Experience administering Azure API Management within an enterprise environment.
- Experience developing and deploying applications in serverless environments.
- Previous experience supporting enterprise IT environments within the healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industries.
- Experience working within large, global, highly regulated organizations.
- Previous technical leadership or developer mentoring experience.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidates will be senior-level Python developers with substantial DevOps experience who can independently design, build, test, and deploy enterprise applications.
Candidates should demonstrate recent, hands-on experience with Python, FastAPI, Jenkins, GitLab, Docker, and Kubernetes, rather than exclusively infrastructure administration or DevOps pipeline support.
Experience integrating enterprise APIs with AI agents, MCP servers, or LLM-based tooling will be particularly valuable.
Why Apply?
- Competitive hourly compensation of $90–$100/hour DOE.
- Fully remote opportunity with CST time zone preference.
- Initial 12-month contract with potential for extension.
- Opportunity to support a leading global healthcare and medical device organization.
- Work with modern Python development, DevOps automation, cloud technologies, and emerging AI integrations.
- Opportunity to provide technical leadership and influence enterprise engineering standards.
